first do 42$ times .30 which is 12.6 . then subtract 42-12.6 which is 29.3 . then do 29.3 * .05 which is 1.465 then add 29.3 and 1.465 which gives you 30.8 (when rounded). so he did have enough money because he has more than 30.8 dollars
