  • Mitochondria: responsible for hosting all metabolic processes that lead to energy production, such as oxidative phosphorylation.
  • Rough endoplasmic reticulum: it is associated to another important organelle, the ribosome, being in charge of the synthesis, transport and secretion of proteins.

Prokaryotic cells, whose structure is simpler, lack nuclei and most organelles.
