Chapter 1
Slytherins are both overrated and underestimated at the same time. Allow me to explain.
On the overrated part
People seem to have two approaches towards Slytherin -
1. No, they're so mean and stuck up, I could never be a Slytherin
2. Oh my stars, I'm totally a Slytherin! This is awsome! I can finally play the villian!
First of all - don't judge a nation by its president. So don't judge Slytherin by it's most famous student, Draco Malfoy. They're not all jerks, and people tend to overdo that Slytherin is a super cool house because they're all purebloods with rich families. They're not.
Second of all, they're only important to people so that there can be a cunning, cruel villain, and that eats me up, because you have so much potential in a Slytherin character, but people are like, "Hm, you're Slytherin? VILLAIN!" That being said, Slytherins make awesome villains because they have all those qualities, but still. Please. Make. A. Non. Villian. Slytherin.
Character.
On the underrated part
People often forget what Slytherins virtues are
1. Ambition
2. Cunning
3. And many, many more
So people just peg Slytherin as the house that you get sorted into for being a jerk. No, no, no, no, NO. You get sorted into Slytherin because you're fast to think and act. You know what you want and you'll do anything to get it. Can that be bad? Yes. Can it be good? Yes. And people underestimate the skills we have. We can be brave like Gryffindor, smart like Ravenclaw, friendly like Hufflepuff, and all of this adds up to cunning. We can be whatever you want us to be, for the sake of reaching our goal.
Conclusion:
Yes, Slytherins can be jerks and villians. But when you think of Draco Malfoy, think of Percy Weasley. And Zacharias Smith. And Gilderoy Lockhart.
Thank you for your time.
