Chapter 3
Draco is lost in conversation with Mrs. Weasley, but my mind is on other things. I pitter-patter my fingers on the back of his hand to get his attention. He stops mid-sentence to turn to me.
"I'll be back, I'm gonna go talk to Ron," I say.
"Alright, babe," he kisses me then continues his conversation. I stand and walk to the stairs. My fingers caress the rough wood of the railing. I have so many memories here. I remembered the first time I set foot in this house. It was the summer of 1992, Ron and the twins had just rescued me from my Aunt and Uncle. The twins. It still wasn't the same without Fred, I missed him. As I arrived at the top floor where Ron's bedroom was located, I could just barely make out whisper fighting between the couple.
"You can't be like that Ronald!"
"Like what?"
"Like an arrogant prick who hates your best friend!"
"I don't hate him! I hate the bloke he's dating, Hermione!"
"That is pure tosh!"
"Oh, is it? Well, how can you even look him in the eyes any more?"
"I can because he's one of my best friends! And I accept him no matter what! Why can't you do that?"
"He's dating the bloody bloke who bullied us all through school! How can HE do that?"
"Because he loves him, Ronald! You can't choose who you love! Obviously or I wouldn't be standing here with you right now! But guess what? I love you, you git! So do one thing for me and love your best friend no matter who HE loves."
This cut Ron off. I thought this the best time, so I slowly opened the door. You could feel the tension built up in the room. Hermione and Ron both turned to face him, they were out of words. When I spoke, it was like a knife cutting the silence.
"Hey" That was all I could manage.
"I'm guessing you heard all that?" Hermione asked in a hushed voice.
"Yeah."
Ron didn't speak, ashamed maybe? All was silent.
"I get that you don't like him very much," I addressed only Ron, "but you're gonna have to tollerate him for a little while longer."
"Little while? Does that mean you've finally come to your senses?" you could hear the sass in his voice.
"No, sorry, wrong choice of words. I meant you're just gonna have to get along."
I glanced over to Hermione, she was beet red, her eyes were wide. She already figured it out. She opened her mouth as to speak but shut it quickly.
"Nonsense, I don't have to get along with anyone I don't want to.
"Then I might not be around much cause," I reached into my pocket and pulled out a little velvet box.
Ron's jaw dropped.
