Chapter 8
- magical, mundane, and transitional
- magical ingredients mostly derived from magical creatures
- Mandrakes (Kingdom Plantae) strong antidote to poison
- speed up metabolic reactions
- mundane ingredients
- biologically gentler alternative
- ginger (mundane root)
*relieve digestive inflammation*
*ease motion sickness*
- mundane products are added to potions even if not on initial list (such as lavender or mint)
- temper effects (ginger, rose, etc.)
- adding wrong magical ingredient could have fatal effects
- never try to add an unlisted magical ingredient (could reform chemical bonds)
- transitional ingredients
- ex: dragonfly thoraxes (don't have magical properties on their own)
- may display magical properties when mixed with a magical ingredient
- Girding Potion
- either development of magic or another expression of a magical gift or talent
- were once very powerful elementals on Earth
- magic became vestigial organs
