Charms, Charms & More Charms

written by Slothie Sparkle

This is my personal journal for Year 1 Charms class. I've decided to publish it so others have an example of a well kept journal, as well as an interesting story to read.

Lesson 2 - Wingardium Leviosa

Chapter 2

Unlike when I first performed the Lumos spell, the buzz of the classroom impaired my ability to focus on my casting. The chanting of students repeating the words made my head pound and my heart beat much faster than it usually would. I did not handle noise very well, especially in social situations. So, I had trouble saying the spell out loud. Instead, I focused saying the spell over and over in my head. I made sure to pronounce the parts properly, so that I could avoid a trip to the doctor's room. But, the pounding was too much. The noise was too much. I just had to come out and say the spell.

Wingardium Leviosa. I did the swish and flick as I said the first part of the spell, making sure to end the flick at the end of leviosa. While I did this, I focused my energy on the quill sitting on my desk. The quill started to float up. The whole class was silent as they watch me. I seemed to be the first person to successfully get my feather up. Even my professor watched with a smile. My heart was beating rapidly though. I was having trouble staying calm. I noticed I had been holding my breath the whole time, but it was too late. My quill fell onto the ground as I blacked out in my chair. I awoke quickly after, with no other damage (that is apart from my dignity).

I really am having a hard time staying calm when performing these spells. The more I practice on a particular spell, the better I get at steadying my nervousness. But, each spell is like a whole new world for me. Even my breathing techniques haven't been helping once I get to class. The noise was definitely a hard thing to get past and probably contributed to my little accident in class.

I think I'll spend more time studying the textbook, as well as my basic spells textbook. If I experience myself more into the wizarding world, I should be less surprised by my actions and more likely to succeed.
