Famous Boggarts
Chapter 4
Boggarts are found all over the world, this they have been an important part in Wizarding history and Muggle history alike. It is quite common for people to think that boggarts are the real thing. This is a bad mistake that many make, resulting in mass fear. Many boggarts attack when fear rises in the community, such as wars, witch hunts, and disease outbreaks.
The Massachusetts Boggart Attack of 1693 was the largest attack by Dark creatures in Massachusetts since the Lycanthropy Outbreak of the 1400s. This was during the Salem Witch Trials, when Muggles and wizardkind alike feared of prosecution. There were 54 boggarts in all and many of them took the form of a person being burned at the stake.
Uric the Oddball was a strange wizard from Medieval times. He wore a jellyfish as a hat and he lived with 50 pet Augureys. He also kept more than 10 boggarts in the kitchen, hoping they would cook for him. The only thing accomplished was establishing Uric's worst fear, conformity, helping people understand his odd behavior. The boggarts are known as the Uric Kitchen Boggarts. They still live today in his home, which is now a museum.
A more recent boggart is the Fake Voldemort Boggart. Its prime period was in 1999, just after Lord Voldemort was defeated by Harry Potter. Fears of Voldemort were higher than ever, as many thought he would rise again. The Boggart always took the form of Lord Voldemort, striking fear into the hearts of its victims.
