Boggart Keeping
Chapter 3
Before you try to destroy the boggart that lurks in your home, consider the bright side of keeping one as a pet. There is a very good reason to do this: for protection. Boggarts can protect a place or guard it if it is tamed. But before you can tame a boggart, you will have to find one.
Boggarts like to live in small, dark places, such as a cupboard or beneath a sink. They are not too fond of light, as it can slightly decrease their power. Boggarts are also spirits, meaning they have no physical body. The only way of transporting a boggart from one place to another is moving its container. For example, if I wanted to take a boggart in a wardrobe to a different place, I'd take the wardrobe instead of physically carrying the boggart.
Some businesses sell boggarts to use for defense. Some excellent ones are Buy A Boggart Inc. or Bunce's Boggarts.
To own one, you must first get a boggart keeping license. This is for the Ministry of Magic to oversee boggart activity and to control boggart population. To get one of the licenses, you must undergo a theoretical exam to test your knowledge on boggarts and you must take a practical exam on proper boggart handling. All of the knowledge needed to get a license is in this book.
Taming a boggart takes a brave individual. You must constantly know that the boggart is nothing more than an illusion. Spending time with it and showing the boggart that you aren't afraid will earn you its respect. It will then not be focused on scaring you, but scaring others.
Many people put boggarts in front of places that the owner wants guarded. This defense should not be used against advanced wizards, as they will easily defeat the boggart. However, it is an excellent hindrance to slow down the intruder.
