Chapter 9
Lumos (LOO-mos)
A wand lighting charm, similar to a muggle light bulb on the end of the wand. When properly cast, it emits a lemon colored light and will fill a room. When undercharged, it will emit a white light, and when overcharged, it emits a scarlet color light. Some wizards and witches may determine to over or under charge this spell based on needs. Lumos is a defensive spell that can be used against specters and dark figures.
Lumos' movement is done by starting to the left, bringing it forward, then into a backward loop. Then move your wand out and to the right. Think counter-clockwise loop. It is reversed by the spell Nox (NOCK-ss) and a flick of the wand.
Spongify (SPUHN-jee-fye)
This is a softening charm. It only works on some surfaces and makes the object rubbery. Stones, metals, and living objects are unaffected, although some side effects might be softening of the hair and skin. This spell is used as protection for the clumsy and small children by softening a book case or wall.
A pink light will will be emitted from the wand and cause the object to glow a pinkish-purple. The charge of the spell will determine how vivid the color is. When the spell is released, the object will glow pink. The movement is an S started at the upper right. Once movement is finished, the item the wand points at next will be hit.
Verdimillious (vur-duh-MILL-ee-us)
This is a dueling spell, but can be used for multiple reasons. Revealing hidden objects, illuminating a room, or a display are uses. The movement is a slash or a jab and emits green sparks that can confuse, disorientate, or slightly injure an opponent.
Charging a spell vs a Strong spell
Charging a spell is based on concentration. Slowing down movements and speech will help to gain control. A strong spell can only be done after a lot of practice, by a talented witch/wizard, or someone with strong will-power and passion.
