My Notes, From A Ravenclaw (Year 1)
These are my notes for all classes through year 1. There are 7 course in the first year. Charms, History of Magic, Herbology, Potions, Transfiguration, DADA, and Astronomy. I will add as I am able. Please check back for new content.

Gnomes
Basic Facts:
Ministry Classification of XX, Harmless.
Sentient, Beast.
Also known as the Garden Gnome (Gernumbli gardensi), or plural, Gernumblies.
They look like large potatoes with bony arms and legs.
Maximum height of 1 ft.
- native to most of Europe and North America.
- common belief that gnomes are attracted to magic, and other magical beings.
- habitat of a gnome is a burrow underground, known specifically as a gnomehole
- two methods to degnome
- toss and wait. grab by the ankle, spin and toss. wait up to a month to see if they come back
- Jarvey. similar to an overgrown ferret. usually a bloody way to degnome.Ethically, very questionable practice.
- First Aid
- seperate from Gnome
- wash with soap and water or disinfecting potion
- once clean, heal with spell or potion
Doxies
Basic Facts:
Ministry Specification of XXX, Competent wizards should cope.
Beast.
Also known as the Biting Fairy.
Covered in short, coarse black hair.
Shiny, beetle-like wings.
Second set of arms and legs.
- commonly found in the colder climates of Europe and North America
- extremely annoying, but also slightly dangerous
- bury their eggs underground, but in some circumstances may tuck
them away at the bottom of a closet or snuggled in some carpet - single doxy can lay up to five hundred eggs at once
- eggs can be identified by their trademark black crescent mark and bluish-purple outer skin
- must be burnt to destroy the eggs completely.
- Doxies can only be removed and disposed of by using a product called Doxycide.
- First Aid
- have an antidote available and ready to use.
- initial reaction may present with redness and swelling at the bite site,
followed by a heat in the surrounding area, the feeling of being faint,
and a full body rash. Most people only experience mild discomfort, with
some redness and swelling, but others can experience the full gamut of
symptoms. - Signs of an allergic reaction to Doxy venom include:
Swelling in the face, lips, or throat.
Difficulty breathing and/or swallowing.
Loss of consciousness.
Extreme swelling in the nodes around the neck, under the arms, or near the groin.
Sudden complete confusion or mood change.
