Bonding with your Flobberworm
Chapter 5
If you choose to own a flobberworm as a pet, you must have a Ministry of Magic license. When choosing a flobberworm, your best bet is Ministry licensed breeder. Always ask for Ministry-approval before buying. Good, legal breeders include Flatuno's Flobberworms and Flobberworm Farm Inc.
Once you have the flobberworm, wash it with only water. The flobberworm prefers spells when being cared for. A good spell for washing is the Water Making Charm. Then, place it in a damp, dark space with partial sunlight. Every morning and noon, feed it. Feeding them at this time increases mucus production. Any vegetables will do, except sentient plants. However, the favorite food of a flobberworm is lettuce and cabbage. NEVER feed a flobberworm Chinese Chomping Cabbage. Overfeeding is a serious problem. If overfed, its Mucuary Gland will burst due to the excess mucus and the flobberworm will die. The proper feeding rate is about one and a half cabbages or lettuces per day.
As said earlier, mid-morning and late afternoon are perfect times for bonding. To bond, you can talk to it, give it affection, or sing to it. Its favorite song genre is apparantly melancholy, which includes songs like "Odo the Hero".
Early morning is the time to harvest the mucus. To do this, gently scrub it off with a soft cloth, generally silk. To reward the flobberworm, give in an extra leaf of lettuce for cooperation. The mucus will stay fresh for about a week, when in a tinted glass.
Every year, your flobberworm will need an annual clean. This involves a long brush enchanted with the Softening Charm coated in a special potion that only Ministry officials from the Beast Division know how to brew. Accurate attempts to replicate the potion include the Girding Potion diluted with morning dew and other complex potion combinations.
