Flight And Repair
Chapter 4
"Wingardium Leviosa."
The books in front of me move
slightly, but they do not float, yet. I have managed to make them fly,
rocket them to the ceiling, and slightly hover them, but completely
making them fly has eluded me so far.
However, I do not give up. I
concentrate harder, grasping my laurel wand tightly, and picture the
books floating in my head. I am in my bed, having returned from a
demanding History of Magic lesson; Professor Baelog talked to us about
the magical roots in Ancient Greece. Being a half-Greek myself, I was
really interested, to say the least. Alas, the excitement was short
lived, because I had to practise for my next Charms lesson. Professor
Quilmane has faith in me, and I must not disappoint him.
"Wingardium Leviosa."
The
tip of my wand vibrates slightly, and I know I have succeeded even
before the books have moved. I smile, watching them hover, and then
elevate, at the control of my wand. I move them right and left, up and
down, and they obey. A minute later, I carefully place them on the
sheets. I pick them up, and place them in my trunk.
I head to my Herbology class, fully aware that I will ace my Charms class tomorrow.
"OUCH!"
"I told you, these doors will not open with a paper clip."
"Oh come on, some have yielded, it's just this one... Merlin's beard, it hurts."
I
am standing on a corridor on the sixth floor, watching my friend Taylor
as he tries to pick a locked door. Apparently, someone had told him
that there were hidden things behind it, and really, it was all it took
for Taylor to get excited. With his paper clip, he set afoot, and he
invited me to come over.
I decided not to tell him that there was a simpler way. Not yet, at least.
"Are you going to be okay?", I asked, seeing his bloody thumb.
"Nah, I will be fine. I will go to Madam Ashlea in the Hospital to be sure. Those handles are 1000 years old..."
"You do know there is a simpler way to open this, right?" I enquired, not being able to hold myself.
"There is? How? You have anything better on you, that's stronger than a paper clip? Cause if that is the case, then allow me-"
"Step aside, Taylor. I've got this."
"Huh? Okay... if you say so."
I got my wand out, and targeted the locket. "Alohomora!"
There was a yellow light, followed by a small click as the lock relented and turned. I opened the door.
There
was just an old class there, full of dust and old desks. The light
shone through the small window on the right corner. Other than that, the
room appeared to be empty.
"There's nothing here... come on, I'm
going to be late for Herbology," I yelled at Taylor as I was speeding to
the door that led to the staircase.
"Where did you learn that?!" Apparently, he was a bit behind on his Charms studying.
"Charms. You better get your hand checked, Taylor."
"Awesome," he said in awe.
"Whatever you say. Oh, give me your paperclip." Perplexed, he pulled the broken paperclip from his pocket and handed it to me.
"Reparo." The clip shook, and then returned to its former state, as if it had never broken. "There. Now head to the hospital wing."
"I really need to get ahead on my Charms lessons, this is some wicked stuff!" As
soon as he thanked me, my friend descended to the thir floor, while I
carried to the Grounds. It felt great knowing how to help my friend.
