The Chinese believe is that dragons are wonderful creatures that bring joy and peace to nice people. They also are in the religion supposed to ward of demons and other evil monsters. The Chinese symbol is probably the dragon. The dragon in the race for the Chinese years (year of the monkey e.t.c.) went back to help people, so that's why it didn't get 1st place.
