Merpeople are mysterious beasts that live under water. They can breathe above water, but it’s unknown how long they can do it for. It’s also very unclear if they are able to leave their habitat for a longer period.

They look different depending on where they are from. For example, the Selkie-merpeople from the UK look very bony, with very thin hair and a shark like mouth, when the Siren-merpeople from Greece look like very attractive young women with tails.

Merpeople are half human and half fish. They can’t talk above water, so if a merpeople would try talking to you above water you’d be in pain, but if they talk to you under water it’ll be one of the most beautiful things you’ve ever heard.

Merpeople’s relationship with wizards are very unstable. Wizards and witches often look down on them, which makes them very sad and upset. But if you treat merpeople good, they’ll treat you even better. Whenever a witch or a wizard who has earned their respect needs help, they’ll be more than happy to help.
