Basilisks

Chapter 10
The basilisk is a giant snake called “the king of serpents”. If you look a basilisk right in the eye you’ll be dead in seconds, but if you look at it through a mirror, reflection, ghost or camera you’ll be petrified.

The basilisk is the enemy of the spiders, and the spiders fear the basilisk more than anything else. If the spiders sense that a basilisk is alive close to them, they’ll flee faster than you think.

A basilisk has extremely venomous teeth, and everything can be killed by that venom. Once you get basilisk venom inside you, it’ll only take 15 minutes before you’re dead. Phoenix tears can heal you tho, just like mandragora can save you when you’re petrified.

To control a basilisk, you have to be able to speak parseltongue, and that’s not a very common gift. Being a parselmouth and speaking parseltounge is something, many evil wizards can do. Of course there are good wizards and witches who speak it too but that’s not common at all. Even though you can speak parseltongue, it can never be sure that you’ll be able to control a basilisk. A basilisk loves to kill, and if you’re a good wizard it won’t really listen to you. But if you are a bad one, who wants to kill, it’ll probably listen to your u since you use it for killing.

It’s illegal to breed basilisk, own basilisk or control basilisks. If the ministry finds out about you doing this, they’ll send you to Azkaban.

Basilisks can live for thousands of years, they’ll live as long as they are not killed. But it’s very hard to kill a basilisk, and only one wizard is known for doing this and that is Harry Potter.

It’s nearly impossible for ANYONE to be immune to basilisks. Only one creature is known for this and that is the Phoenix.
