Lesson One - Introduction
Chapter 1
- Astronomy is not Divination.
- Astrology deals with the positions of planets
as well but the two are completely separate subjects overall. - Muggle Astronomy and Wizarding Astronomy are
completely different
·
Wizard astronomers study how
movements of the celestial bodies affect witches and wizards on Earth.
- Example: magical folk with
the werewolf curse shifting only during a full moon.
“Astronomy is the study of astronomical objects that
are beyond Earth’s atmosphere.” (Including the eight planets, dwarf planets,
the stars and galaxies.)
“Astronomy is important because our culture has always
for the longest time become one with space and everything in space.”
- Basic Facts of the Solar System
- Our solar system is composed of various planets,
asteroids, celestial bodies and other entities such as satellites. - Main topics for this course include: Mercury, Venus,
Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune. - Pluto is a dwarf
planet—not one of the main eight. - Each planet orbits a single star known as the “Sun and
has one or more moons—save Mercury and Venus who have none.
