Moon Cat (unfinished)

written by Ash Wolfsone

Every night, at exactly 11.59 pm, she - it - would appear. It would be gone by midnight. But I never expected it to share secrets. . . If everything goes to plan, I will update this every few days (if I have extra time, maybe daily!) All reviews are invited :P

Chapter 3
The Birman cats were whining in my face, and I got up with a start. I grabbed my glasses from the stand beside my bed, shoved them on my face, and groaned.

"Mum!" I called. She was almost definitely awake, if I was. My mum was known for being the early-bird of the family. "What are the cats doing here?"

There was no reply. "Mum?" I repeated, a little quieter this time.

Pearl mewed again, and kicked over my alarm clock. I shoved both cats off with a huff, picked up my alarm clock and almost immediately dropped it again. It was just-past three in the morning.

I growled. The whingey cats had woke me up at this time for their food!

I kicked them out of my room, slammed the door, took off my glasses, wrestled my way under the covers and tried to ignore the scratches and hisses on the other side of the door.

By the time I woke up again, I had overslept, but I realised it was (thankfully) the weekend. Eyes bleary and glasses lopsided, I had no memory of this morning's annoying escapades, but had rather forgotten the cats. As I stumbled into the kitchen, joined my family at the table, and begin to slather marmite on as many pieces of toast my plate could hold, I felt a fluffy tail wrap around my cold foot. I yelped and jumped up.

"What the hell-!" I saw Samphire grinning under the table, and last night came flooding back to me. I sighed and rubbed my eyes, but stroked the cats.

"It's okay, I forgive you," I whispered, as Pearl appeared, mewing not horribly this time but quite cutely.

"So," I said, addressing the table, "what are they doing here?"

"We've agreed to take them in," replied Mum, crunching on her own toast.

"Seriously?" I groaned. If I was going to be woken up at three every morning, it was going to be a nightmare having two cats around! But secretly, I think I was happy. Two fluffy Birmans would be a nice companion.

"We also have more big news for you," chipped in Dad. He and Mum exchanged a glance, and he smiled, despite his red eyes. "Since Grandma never left her house specifically to anyone in our family, we've decided to let you move in."
