Chapter 8: Kappas, Werewolves & Acromantulas

Chapter 8
Now that we've completed the lesser Dark creatures, this chapter and the next few will be on the topic of creatures which the Ministry of Magic have classified as highly dangerous. We will start the last few chapters with kappas, acromantulas and werewolves.
Native to Japan, the kappa (XXXX) is a Dark creature that lives in shallow water. They strangle victims who stray into their ponds. Kappas resemble scaly monkeys with a shallow hollow in its head that is full of water. To prevent any aggression from them, throw a cucumber with your name on it. The kappa will accept it as an offering, and leave you peacefully. Another way to defend yourself from kappas is to have pure iron, ginger, and sesame on your person. All three of these effectively repel them.
If you don't have a cucumber, you must fool the kappa. The key to defeating a kappa is to trick it into bowing. Kappas are obsessed with politeness despite their vicious nature. This will make the water fall out from its hollow, draining it of any power. You may have heard of just leaving it to die, but always refill the kappa's hollow. This will earn you its greatest respect and it may stop its human eating habits. ----------------------------------
Werewolves (XXXXX) are generally misunderstood creatures. Many people, such as the former Undersecretary to the Minister, Dolores Umbridge, hate these creatures and shun them from society. The illness that all werewolves have is lycanthropy. Every month, under the full moon, they lose their human mind and transform into a wolf with a taste of human flesh. The only known way for werewolves to keep their mind is to give them the Wolfsbane Potion prior to the transformation. A number of minor curses can subdue a werewolf.
There are a few steps to cure a werewolf bite. First, get in a safe place. Then, wash the wound with soap and water then, let it dry. Next, soak it in an antibacterial potion. Then, cleanse it with a mixture of dittany and powdered silver and bandage, rebandaging every four hours. --------------------------------
Acromantulas are large spiders that are capable of human speech. Despite their high intelligence, they can't fight back natural urges to eat whatever they see. Some have even reverted to eating their own family. In some instances, wizards have formed strong relationships with acromantulas and the acromantulas refuse to eat them. Some rumors say that an Acromantula colony lives in the Forbidden Forest. Rubeus Hagrid is said to have bonded with them.
It's unlikely that you will ever encounter an Acromantula, but it doesn't hurt to know how to defend yourself from them. An easy spell that doesn't require a lot of willpower or concentration is the Spider Repelling Charm ( Arania Exumai). This repels all spiders. Another danger of the Acromantula is its venom which kills the victim in around an hour. A very strong antidote or simply a bezoar will act as a cure to the venom.
