Chapter 7: Trolls, Vampires, & Kelpies
Chapter 7
These all are great examples of the different intelligence of Dark creatures. Trolls are very dull and have only a few magical powers. Kelpies are clever and very magical. Vampires are "beings" and have as much intellect as us wizards.
Trolls (XXXX) have, possibly, the least intelligence of all magical creatures. This may be the cause of the troll's aggressive behavior. There are 3 types of trolls: the mountain troll, the river troll, and the forest troll. Despite their lack of intelligence, they have a language, which is relatively simple to understand.
The first thing you should do if you encounter a troll, is try to communicate with it. This may calm the troll, or anger it. If you anger it, there are a few spells that can penetrate a troll's mostly curse-proof hide. A reccomended spell to use is the Bludgeoning Hex (Labefactum). The hardest part of dueling with a troll, is dodging the quick attacks. ---------------------------------
The kelpie (XXXX), also known as the waterhorse, is a magical shape shifter. It lives underwater and sometimes comes to the surface for air. Its most known forms include a horse and a sea serpent which Muggles refer to as the Loch Ness Monster. Kelpies prefer humans as prey, and will carry humans on their backs in horse form to drown them.
The trick to deal with kelpies is to use a Placement Charm (Steddorio) to put a bridle on it. This will render it docile and harmless for about an hour.
---------------------------------
Vampires are a misunderstood species that deserve as much respect as us. Their magical abilities include superhuman strength and speed. While they do thrive of blood, many of them drink stale blood from blood banks or livestock, rather than putting people in danger. There are even blood-flavored lollipops, in candy shops like Honeyduke's, for vampires. However, when they do drink a human's blood, that human turns into a vampire.
Law states that because they are beings, it is a crime to kill a vampire. But, there are ways to repel them. A vampire can't stand the scent of garlic. To them, it is toxic if inhaled long enough. Holy symbols, like crucifixes, can also deter a vampire.
There are a few myths behind vampires that I'd like to dismiss. A vampire can survive in the sun, and some even enjoy it. The truth behind this lies in the fact that they lose their supernatural powers in sunlight. They can't turn into bats either because they only have rudimentary magic. Some of you may have seen the Muggle movie saga, Twilight. This movie may be enjoyable for some, but it shows vampires in an absurd way.
