Chapter 6: Erklings, Nogtails, & Red Caps
Chapter 6
All magical demons, the nogtail, the erkling, and the red cap are not something that you want to encounter. They are pests but much more Dark than most pests such as gnomes or imps.
Erklings (XXXX) are one of the most vicious creatures in the Wizarding world. Their favorite activies are using their cackle to kidnap children and shooting darts. An erkling can easily be recognized by their pale, thin body and pointed face. Even though their species is now mostly controlled, they still pose a threat.
There is no exact technique to defending yourself from erklings. This is because resourceful wizards can use many different jinxes and hexes to defeat them. These include the Orbis Jinx, the Pullus Jinx, and, my personal favorite, the Melefors Jinx. To stop their elusive cackle, place the Silencing Charm (Silencio). Luckily the last erkling attack was more than a century ago and the child survived the encounter by hitting the erkling on the head with his father's cauldron. ---------------------------------
Red Caps (XXX) were given their name because their headwear is covered in blood. This blood gives them their power and strength. They lurk underground in ditches. Red Caps also slightly look like pale, ugly goblins.
When dealing with a red cap, never run. This is because they are very fast and easily outrun humans. The easiest way to get rid of them is drenching them in a Beautification Potion. They will be disgusted by their appearance and go into hiding . Also, a number of charms and hexes can be used against them such as the Leg Locker Curse or the Freezing Charm. --------------------------------
Nogtails (XXX) are demons that look like bone white pigs. They live in rural areas and sneak into pigsties. Here, they suckle on a regular pig, which in turn, puts a curse on the farm. The longer a nogtail is unnoticed, the stronger the curse becomes. The beginning stages of the curse include minor bad luck and forgetfulness. Later, the curse causes wrath and paranoia to the owner.
They are very quick and can dodge many spells. The Freezing Charm and other spells to hinder them may work but not for long. A very common method is to chase off the nogtail with a pure white dog. This make sure that it will never come back. The Ministry of Magic keeps a pack of albino bloodhounds for this reason. Nogtail hunting is a popular sport in England and the US.
