Chapter 2

Before you start anything, one of the most important things to learn is what different herbs or fragrances or oils or powders are associated with what.

Incenses:

  • Allspice: money, luck, physical energy
  • Arabic, Gun: purification, protection
  • Bay: purification, healing, protection, psychic powers
  • Benzoin: purification, prosperity, mental powers
  • Cedar: purification, protection, healing, spirituality, money
  • Cinnamon: psychic powers, money, healing, protection, love
  • Clove: protection, exorcism, money, love, purification
  • Copal: protection, cleansing, purification, spirituality
  • Dragon’s Blood: love, protection, exorcism, sexual potency
  • Frankincense: protection, exorcism, spirituality, love, consecration
  • Juniper: exorcism, protection, healing, love
  • Myrrh: healing, protection, exorcism, peace, consecration, meditation
  • Pine: money, purification, healing, exorcism
  • Rosemary: protection, exorcism, purification, healing, love
  • Sage: healing, cleansing, spirituality
  • Sandalwood: protection, healing, exorcism, spirituality
  • Thyme: healing, purification
Stones:
  • Agate - good energy balancer overall, helps smooth out “rollercoaster” feelings and thoughts, soothes anxiety (moss agate is particularly effective for me)
  • Amber - not always easy to find, can be expensive, but a great all-purpose witchery stone (particularly good if you happen to work with Freyja), general good-health stone
  • Amethyst - my personal favorite for preventing hangovers and headaches
  • Bloodstone - useful for internal complaints and injuries, to speed healing and restore energy and vitality
  • Carnelian - another general good-health stone (and such a pretty red!)
  • Fluorite - I’ve found that carrying this in my pocket on those “feeling low” days helps me to focus and feel less drained
  • Garnet - best thing outside of chocolate to help soothe the pain of a wounded heart
  • Hematite - for warding off/shortening illnesses and clearing icky stuff out of the body (I have a friend who wears hematite rings and rarely gets sick)
  • Jasper (Green) - all-purpose healing stone
  • Quartz Crystal - a do-all stone, can be put to any magical purpose, great for amplifying and focusing other effects and for cleansing (I use them to give healing spells a boost)
  • Rose Quartz - wear this one after a break-up to help yourself move on and clear away that bogged-down feeling
  • Turquoise - to ward off illness and bring strength
Waters:
  • Sea Water - I use it for literally everything, cleansing, banishing etc.
  • Rain Water- This kind of depends on what you associate with rain. I use this mostly for creativity/inspiration sort of things.
  • Storm Water- Strength or when used in curses is good for chaos and ‘stormy’ times.
  • Puddle Water- I personally use this in curses when I want the target to feel stagnate, trapped at a certain point in their life.
  • Water from a Storm Drain - For curses, I use this when I want my target to feel self-loathing, low and disgusted with themselves.
  • Water from a Flower Vase - I usually only use this when the flowers in the vase are in full bloom (or as much as they can be) for ‘nourishing’ a situation and helping it grow.
  • Tears - Very strong, they can be used for a lot of things. Even positive.
  • River Water- Can help stimulate change.
  • Lake Water - Even though I have a lake very close to my house, admittedly, I don’t use it too often. But it can be used as a substitute for sea water.
