This book was handmade by Amity herself, her personal 'Liber Umbarium', in latin, a Book of Shadows, and she knew it was very powerful.
The wood of her wand, walnut wood, matched the book, Amity designed it herself to duplicate it like so. 
It was designed to represent Her Own magical self, a Creative magical journal so to speak.
It was filled with spells, odes and fairytales; her works including her researched historical magic of late, which included her extensive mythological and anthropological papers, exclusive essays on nymphs; fae folk and other magical mythological beasts.
The Spellbook being the familiar rich brown hue;
mimicing her wand-wood where it was pale, yet darkly imprinted with the perfect spirals of the natural knots in the wood.
