Xin Mei is a pretty thirteen year old girl. She may act and be like any other girls, but the thing is, she's Chinese-American. Of course, she has a few friends who are pure Americans and she doesn't care. However, people in school always teased and harassed her. They never treat Xin Mei as one of them. They always leave her out of things. But luckily, she has her few friends by her side and she knows that as long as they stay on her side, nothing, NOTHING, can block her way to popularity.

Chapter 1
Xin Mei was in the kitchen, eating a bowl of cornflakes. Her older sister, Gao Li was on her phone, as usual, reading texts and eating eggs and sausages. "'Morning, y'all!!!"her mom says, breezing into the kitchen. Dad was at the stove, frying eggs. He went over to Mom and gave her a light kiss on the cheek. "Dear Gracie. Do come and eat breakfast!!"he says. Xin Mei giggles. she always likes watching her parents be like this. Gao Li polished off her last bite of eggs and quickly scurried out and upstairs.
A few minutes later, Xin Mei was in her father's car. He was driving her to school. Dad turns on the music and hums along. Xin Mei rolls her eyes. "Dad!!! You know I hate that song!! Why do you always put it on when you drive me to school?!" Then she laughs, but she was still serious. Her dad gives a booming laugh and turned to a new song. "Ahh, that's so much better." The ride was quiet as she sings softly.
Soon, their car arrived at school. Her father opens the car door for her. Xin Mei got out, her backpack slung over her shoulder. "Ugh,"she says,"It's so heavy!!!" She ran ahead and call over her shoulder,"Bye,Dad!!!! See you after school!!!!" Her dad gave a wave and left.
