Chapter 1
Dear Diary,

I admit, I've been nervous, but this is too great an experience to even think about missing! Not like I was thinking of quitting for the sake of school... oh, really, must I tell you everything?! I suppose I should stop getting so angry, after all, I don't think any benefits will come out of it. The girls sitting on the seat across from me here on the Hogwarts Express are quite chatty. All I hear is, "Oh my goodness, Evelyn! Tom said..." or "Evelyn, you said what about Tom?! Merlin's beard!" Teenage chatter is so boring! Luckily, I have better things to do than listen to them. I quickly put on my robes and look at the buck-toothed boy sitting across from me. He looks nervous as ever. Then I notice the toad in his hand slip away, and I tell him so. He frantically searches around, and so do I, until we are sure he's gone out of our compartment. I'm in need of something to do, so I search the train. And guess who I see in the seat in front of us? Harry Potter himself! He's sitting with a boy who has very noticeable flaming red hair - and a bit of dirt on his nose. The boy tries to do a spell on his rat which definitely is a fake, but it seems like his brothers have convinced him it's real. It doesn't work, as expected. I get up to leave,
"You must be Harry Potter! I'm Hermione Granger, and you are?" I ask the red haired boy.
"Ron Weasley," he says through a mouth full of what looks like salt water taffy.
"Pleasure," I say. I want to mention that he's being disrespectful by talking with his mouth full, but I decide not to. He seems like one of those boys who just won't listen. I hear a girl snicker at my bushy hair, but thankfully no one else notices. I tuck a strand of hair back, but I know a difference isn't made. It was worth a shot anyway. Finally, the train comes to a stop after a while, and we all get down. A very tall human (if it's possible to call him that) stands there, holding a lantern. He's yelling, "First years, this way!" so I walk to him. Harry seems to know him already, and I wonder how. Okay, I've got to go, sorry! We're getting on the boats!
Love,
Hermione
