Moments in Memory
Chapter 3
As I sit on the plush golden sofa in the Hufflepuff Common room, I do my homework. A two foot long essay on Beozars is pretty simple and I am done within two hours. I have to draw two diagrams of the Geranium, one of the Flower and one of the overall plant. This takes me less than an hour and soon I find I am done with the day's Homework. Now, I finish my essay on the Four Hogwarts Founders and practice Accio. I place my Charms book on the other side of the room and quietly say
"Accio" The book easily flies into my hands. For most of the other students, Accio is still hard, but for the select few. Professor Flitwick says that in two weeks we will be working on the Silencing charm Silencio. But, Maya, Peter, and I have all researched it and decided to practice. Finally, Maya finishes her Herbology drawing (which is much better than mine) I am good at drawing, but not that good. Peter looks up from "The Standard book of Spells Grade 5" and grins. Most of the Hufflepuff girls like Peter. He is tall, with blonde hair and icicle blue eyes. However, his personality is quite different. Basically He, Maya, and I are the very advanced Hufflepuffs for our age. We all take Advanced classes together that are mostly made up of Ravenclaws. Then he reads the words on the page
"It says that Silencio should be done with exact precision and aim at the target. At least until the Wizard has mastered the spell. The Wizard must say "Silencio" very clearly and trace a half circle and a sharp wrist flick."
He shows us the book and points at a diagram.
"So even Jacob can do it" He adds. Jacob is a particularly bad Wizard at Charms even though he is in the advanced class. We all begin to do the Hand motion. Soon we add the word Silencio. After a half hour, we are ready to try. Night is creeping closer and closer. Right now it is nine thirty.
"Now, Peter should try first" I say.
"Because I am the best at charms" He says grinning. I instantly reply
"No because if he messes up we can watch how we did it." Maya bursts into laughter and soon I am laughing and Peter is very obviously trying not to laugh. Finally He says Silencio at Maya who is still giggling. It does not work and she breaks into more giggles. Peter tries to focus but it is quite hard. Finally, Peter does the hand movement perfectly and very clearly says
"Silencio" It works. Maya keeps shaking with laughter and then realizes she can't hear herself laughing. None of us can. And, as the night wears on, we all manage to succeed. Well, Maya tries to silence Peter and his voice just goes down to a whisper. Soon, It is midnight, and there is no one left in the Common room. Maya and I walk to Our Dormitory and Peter walks to his. I lie in bed, unable to sleep thinking of Hogwarts. I only have two years left of Hogwarts. Hogwarts is so Amazing, Hogwarts is my home, and once I move on in life I can't come back (unless I become a professor.) So now I need to remember every moment and cherish it. I need to live day by day. And I need to make the moments in my memory matter.
