Mixing Up With The Malfoy's
Chapter 2
The next morning, I hurried out of bed, combing my hair as to make it neater, and pulled on my Gryffindor robes. I then dug my pointed hat out of my trunk so that it would at least conceal my hair somewhat. I pulled up my sheets and tidied my section of the dormitory, and then I hurried off to breakfast. Along the way, I caught up with Harry and his friend, Ron. I said, "Good morning!" and they both muttered, "Hey," back to me. I was taken aback, for people usually responded more cheerfully than that to me. But, I overlooked it. I then noted, "You two have Charms class with me, don't you? Well, it'll be scheduled soon, you'd better hurry if you don't fancy being late." They looked at each other and Harry said, "All right, we'll see you in class." I said, "Okay," and headed off. I spotted Draco talking to his friends, and I hurried up to say hello. "Hello, Draco!" He looked at me, grinned, and said, "Hello, Hermione. How are you?" His friends looked at him and glared. I cocked my head, wondering what was up. "I... I was wondering if y-you might want to hang out with me tonight, as friends. We could study for the Potions quiz. I heard Professor Snape plans on giving out some trick questions." He looked nervous, and I said, "I'd love to! When should we meet?" His friends shook their heads and walked away. He stared at them leaving, and replied, "How about 7:30 tonight in the library?" I said, "Sure!" We then parted ways and I didn't see him until Charms, because Gryffindor had the same Charms class with Slytherin. He was sitting in the top row of seats in the Charms classroom, but I waved at him before sitting down in front. He waved back, looking a bit dazed, and then glanced down. He picked up his wand, a dark brown wand with little flexibility, and fidgeted with it in his hands. I sat down, placed my books on the ground, and pulled out my wand. There was a feather at each seat, and I twirled it in my hands, wondering what they would be used for. Professor Flitwick, standing on his seat, cleared his throat and said, "One of a wizard's most rudimentary skills is levitation, or the ability to make objects fly. Er... Do you have your feathers?" I took my feather and raised it so he could see. "Well, don't forget the nice wrist movement we've been practicing, the Swish-and-flick. Everyone," he said, and we all said, "Swish and flick," while moving our wands in the air. "Oh, and enunciate, Wingardium Leviosa. Off you go, then." We all raised our wands, practicing the words and wrist movement, and I saw Harry's friend Ron butchering the pronunciation. I stuck my hand out, and said, "Stop, stop, stop. You're going to take someone's eye out with that thing. Besides, you're saying it WRONG. It's Levi-OH-sa, not Levios-AH." He replied, "You do it then, if you're so clever. Go on, go on." I looked at him skeptically, and said, "All right." I cleared my throat, and chanted, "Wingardium Leviosa," and saw my feather go up, up, up. Ron laid his head on his desk, annoyed, and I smirked at him. Serves him right to challenge me! I saw Draco out of the corner of my eye grinning at Ron, and he said, "Weasley, did Hermione beat you already? Well, you are pretty bad at magic, and she's good, it only makes sense." I beamed at him, and he smiled back. Professor Flitwick noticed my feather, and said, "See here, everyone! Miss Granger's done it!" Everyone looked at my feather, awed. I loved it!
