Physical Charms

Chapter 5
Keywords: Surface Layer, Multi Layer, Full Body

{-Standard-}
Students should have a conceptual understatement of physical charms are and why we classify them into different degrees.

[Essential Question]
What are the intended targets for physical charms? What kind of effects do each degree of charms have and how do the affect their target at a fundamental level?

|General Answer|
Physical charms require a lot more effort from a witch or wizard because they are applied to living targets. Since creature's are made up of a variety of properties, these charms are quite more intensive. We classify the intensity of said charms by degree. First, Second, and Third degree charms reference the affect of the charms on the target at a cellular level.

Main Generalizations:
*SURFACE LEVEL/FIRST DEGREE charms affects the surface of the body(skin/hair/nails/etc) and even at its most malevolent, will only go skin deep. First Degree spells are the easiest to cast on yourself or any other living thing for this reason.

*MULTI LAYER/SECOND DEGREE charms are harder to cast because the magic has to reach deeper and affect more things. Second Degree spells can go deeper and heal minor cuts or bruises. They usually most effective on concentrated areas of tissue and blood vessels such so that healing charms will most likely fall into this category.

*FULL BODY/THIRD DEGREE charms are called full body spells don't actually affect the entire body. They affect a large area of the body but are usually restricted to one thing, like muscles.

#DEFINE
- A physical charms
- Three classifications of physical charms (^Definitions Above^)

{FIRST DEGREE}

-The Color Change Charm-
Incantation: Colovaria (co-loh-VA-ree-ah)
Wand Movement: Point at target.
Willpower: Moderate; Depending on the size of the object you're coloring.
Concentration: Low; Make sure to keep the color you are wanting in mind. If you begin to lose focus on the color you want before the entire object has changed, you may end up with a different color, or sometimes a sort of muddled brown.

Why is it first degree?
***This is the most basic charm for changing something's color, and works on pretty much everything non-living, including your hair and nails if you’re careful. Since it’s important to maintain eye contact when casting, try starting with just the tips of your hair. This spell, though basic, is widely considered to be the best for changing colors, even though it fades after a few days (depending on the concentration and willpower used).***

{SECOND DEGREE}

-General Healing Charm-
Incantation: Episkey (eh-PIS-kee)
Wand Movement: Vertical Slash
Willpower: Low; usually depending on the seriousness of the injury
Concentration: High; focus on the damaged area and visualize the repairing

Why is it second degree?

***Episkey is a healing spell that heals relatively minor injuries such as broken noses, split lips, and minor cuts. If the wound is of great size, you may need to cast the spell multiple times, or you can use a more powerful healing spell.***

{THIRD DEGREE}

-The Full Body-Bind Curse-
Incantation: Petrificus Totalus (peh-TRI-fif-cus toh-TAH-lus)
Wand Movement: ¾ of a circle, a swish to the right, ending with a downward flick
Willpower: Moderate
Concentration: Moderate, on locking your target’s entire body

Why is it third degree?

***This spell causes most skeletal muscle (responsible for movement) to become unable to move. It doesn't freeze the entire body (like stopping the movement of blood or thoughts or other organ function), but it does affect the entire body's ability to move.***
