Bewitchment and Magical Objects
Chapter 3
Keywords: Bewitchment(Shallow/Deep) and Forms(Personal, Continuous, Triggered, Activated, Collection, Charged);
{-Standard-}
Students are expected to have a basic understatement of what bewitchment is and how magical items acquire their power.
[Essential Questions]
*What is Bewitchment? What are the types? How do we use bewitchment to give magical powers to items?
|General Answer|
Bewitchment is the constant magical affection through various mediums such as charms, and power is transferred to items or creatures to produce or alter desired effects. Wizards and witches have developed two main types of bewitchment, deep and shallow.
Main Generalizations:
*DEEP BEWITCHMENT effects are long-lasting or can be activated weeks or months after spells have been laid upon them. The spells are absorbed into the material and the magic does not weaken or dissipate for quite some time.
*SHALLOW BEWITCHMENT, on the other hand, is so named because the charms are only loosely applied to the surface. With nothing to sustain the magic, the spell feeds off of whatever was supplied when it was cast until it disappears.
*CONTINUOUS INITIATION FORM causes magic objects to function regardless of whether or not some action is performed.
*ACTIVATION INITIATION FORM requires speaking a word or phrase, pointing the item in a particular direction, or applying an effort of will to activate the object.
*TRIGGER INITIATION FORM causes the magical properties of an object to take effect when the object is touched or pressed in a certain way. Differs from activation form because a degree of control is required.
*PERSONAL POWER FORM allows magical objects to be powered by a person using them.
*COLLECTION POWER FORM allows magical objects to be powered by the magic in the surrounding environment. They absorb the latent magical energy in the air to power their effects.
*CHARGED POWER FORM magical objects store their energy needed to activate their effect at a predetermined time. The power used in these objects is instilled in it at the time of its creation.
-Objectives- Students should be able to . . .
+ Understand the types of bewitchment.
+ Understand how magical items are powered.
+ Understand how we magical items are initiated.
+ Be able to classify various magical objects and state their forms.

Items Which a Witch Bewitched. . .and Their Forms
Prepared by, Professor Powers
GOAL: For students to have a better picture of longer lasting charms or bewitchment. By analyzing different shallow charms and forms of magical items.
DEFINE: Shallow Bewitchment and Deep Bewitchment (^see definitions above^)
|Comparison|: Shallow Bewitchment are charms that last for a considerable amount of time and allow the caster to manipulate a target's properties. While Deep Bewitchment, allows for a caster to channel magic and influence a target for a great period of time; for instance, magical objects.
[SHALLOW BEWITCHMENT]:
-Softening Charm-
Incantation: Spongify (SPUHN-jee-fye)
Wand Movement: A "S" like motion starting from the top downwards.
Willpower: High; will determine the bouncy of the target and the duration.
Concentration: Low
Explanation: The Softening Charm is a spell that softens a target area or object, making it rubbery and bouncy. Casting the Softening Charm on a book will cause it to be squishy and easily bendable, but the magic only lasts for a short period of time before it dissipates. With nothing to sustain the magic, the spell feeds off of whatever was supplied when it was cast until it disappears.
[DEEP BEWITCHMENT]
