Wand-Lighting Charms Plus Counter-charm
Chapter 2
The Wand-Lighting Charm is a charm and a light-creation spell. These kind of charms will illuminate the tip of the caster’s wand; this light was fairly warm. The counter-charm for the is the Wand-Extinguishing Charm, which is used to extinguish the light from the caster’s wand. Miranda Goshawk said regarding this charm, “The Wand-Lighting Charm is simple, but requires concentration. Take care not to accidentally set your wand alight as damage of this kind can be permanent. If in any doubt about your abilities you would do better to buy yourself a magic lantern.” The Wand-Extinguishing Charm was a spell causing the light at the end of the caster’s wand to be extinguished. It is the counter-charm for the Wand-Lighting Charm.
Charm: LUMOS (Loo-mos)
History: This charm was not invented until the 18th century. In 1772, Levina Monkstanley used the charm publicly in the Ministry of Magic to help her look for a fallen quill in a dusty corner. A German wizard called Garvin Lügner claimed to have invented this charm, while developing his instant Darkness Powder. This was a lie, plus his Darkness Powder did not do much than slightly dim the lights.
Effects: Illuminates the tip of the wand, but also can repel spectral foes such as Gytrashes and malevolent spirits. The light works as a directed beam rather than a general light source. If you over-charge the charm the color changes from lemon-yellow to a vibrant scarlet.
Wand Movements: You must move the wand in a small cursive ‘e’ shape while saying the charm.
Counter-charm: NOX (Nock-ss)
History: This counter-charm was most likely invented by the same person who invented the Lumos charm, Levina Monkstanley. She invented the Wand-lighting charm in 18th century and most likely the Wand-Extinguishing Charm around that time too.
Effects: Counters the Wand-Lighting Charm, Lumos, by extinguishing the light.
Wand Movements: You wave the Lumos lighten wand in small wave movement while saying the charm.
Charm/Spell: LUMOS SOLEM SPELL (Loo-mos So-lem)
History: This spell sends out a light that is as powerful as the sun. Very useful against Devil’s Snare.
Effects: Creates a powerful ray of narrow light as bright as the sun.
Wand Movements: You have to point your wand directly in the direction of the opponent while saying the charm/spell.
