The Meeting
Chapter 9
I jumped up in bed, and looked around the room. All of the dorm mates where getting dressed. I looked outside and saw the crescent moon in the sky. I felt the eery chill that blew over the Hogwarts castle. You could see a small mist coming from the East.
I threw a shirt on, just because I only slept shirtless. I ran downstairs into the common room, and noticed there was a line out of the door. All of the portraits were gone. I felt my heart drop. "What happened?" I said quietly. "No one knows, all we know is Molina one of the Ravenclaw girls was seen with Jenny another Ravenclaw girl, they were heading to the bathroom, and they reported this to the Headmaster immediately. Apparently someone is in the castle."
We all slowly made our way down to the Great Hall where the professors were waiting with the younger students. They wanted the younger students there first because the seventh years knew how to defend ourselves unlike the younger students.
There were numerous Aurors in the Great Hall, along with all of the professors talking to the students one at a time. Each of the Head's of House were questioning their students, along with another faculty member. Of course, I was in Gryffindor - So I ended up being in Theo's line. I made my way slowly to the front of the line. I was one away from Theo, and then the Groundsmaster grabbed me and pulled me to talk to him.
I had a sense of fear on me; everyone did. "Where were you later this evening?" Groundskeeper Gordon asked. "After the party, I went to the common room, and stayed there for a few minutes, after that I went to bed when the rest of the students came into the common room." I shuffled my feet, because they were still asleep. "And who were you with before the other students entered the room?" Groundskeeper Gordon said with a sense of urgency. "I.. I was with...." I heard Theo cough, and I glanced over at him with my peripheral vision. He was turning a different shade of red then he normally was. "I can't say who I was with.. Lie.. I have to lie." I said in my head before I spoke, "I was by myself. I was laying down on the couch just thinking of how weird it will be to not be here next year." I knew I had done it, and I lied pretty well too. "Mr. Yerger, you're free to leave."
We weren't actually free to leave. We had to wait for a big speech from the professors, and the staff before we left. Of course, we had Hogsmead tomorrow, so we were gonna have no sleep too.
I sat down on the ground next to the fireplace and held my knees to my chest, and set my head in between my legs. I heard footsteps walk next to me. I looked up and it was a girl. "Mind if I join you?" she said. "Of course" I told her. She sat down "Brenna... Ravenclaw." I looked at her and laughed, "What is it with all of these Ravenclaws today?" she looked at me and started laughing. "I don't know. Guess we're a weird bunch."
I watched as the line grew shorter and shorter. I kept watching Theo talk to the other students, I could only notice a few words he would say. I watched his lips ever so carefully. He would talk so slow, it drew me in. I couldn't help but stare. Everyone's voices were drowning out, all I could see was him now. I didn't see anyone else. Then I felt it.. That feeling again, that weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. I looked right back at Theo who was staring at me, he made a small smile at me, and then talked to the last student in line.
"You two seem to have a good relationship" said Brenna. I came back to reality, "Who? Th-- I mean Professor James? Well. Er. We kind of do, I guess. He's helped me out a lot the past few days." Brenna smiled. "I can see it in your eyes, you don't have to hide it from me. I won't say anything." I looked at her with amazement, "Say what?" I said. "Your feelings for each other." My heart stopped. "For each other?" I said. "Well, of course. Look at the way he looks at you. He doesn't think "Oh hey, a student." He thinks of something different. The way he looks at you, the smile he gives off. He feels something different." I glanced back over at him, "I doubt it. Even if he did, it's not right. He's a professor." I watched his hands as he fixed the collar on his shirt.
"Who cares what others think? You can keep it a secret until you get out of here. Then you can do whatever you like." Brenna said. I stood up, and offered my hand to help her up, "Who knew a Ravenclaw would want to bend the rules?" We both laughed. We dusted our bottoms off.
Professor Novellus stood to the front of the room, and used his wand as a Microphone.
"Students, Professors, Faculty, and Staff. I am here to tell you about a great threat that has happened to the school. We have had a break in. This has not happened in quite some time." Suddenly the castle started to rumble, as echos outside were cast inwards to the castle. "Bloody...." I walked to the middle of the room where everyone was gathered. I got pushed to the back. Everyone was trying to look out of the main window. There was a fire that roared so large, you couldn't tell it was night time. The students started to back up without looking, and pushed me down.
I felt hands on my waist before I fell. I looked up to see him catching me. Theo was there to catch me. "Careful. You might as well be standing behind a stampede of Elephants." I looked at him and laughed, while he set me back into the upright position. I watched the students run to the courtyard, "John! Are you coming?" I saw Brenna, Bry, and Jachelle all standing there. I looked at Theo who was staying behind with the Professors. "Go. I will meet you back here when you come back."
I ran over to them, and saw fire light up an entire circle around the castle. Students started screaming "WE ARE GONNA DIE." Some even started crying.
"Students. Please return to your dormitories." The Herbology teacher stated. Every student ran towards the door, and to their respective dorm.
Bry, Jachelle, Brenna, and I all stayed behind lurking around the columns to see what was happening.
"I wonder what's going on" Jachelle said.
I watched as the Professors made their way outside, "We have protective charms on the campus. They won't be able to break into it" said a Professor. "Yes. We do. However, they can be penetrated." Headmaster Novellus said. "We need to have the under classmen stay in the dungeon, and have the Seventh Years help us guard the castle" said Theo. All of the Professors nodded in unison.
The professors all walked back into the castle, and I walked behind Theo. I watched as Bry, Jachelle, and Brenna followed the Professors to the Hufflepuff and Slytherin common room first which was down below everyone.
I was alone. I haven't been alone for awhile. It's been chaotic. I looked at the empty frames as though a tragedy struck over the castle. I heard someone behind me. "John. What are you doing." Theo said.
I turned around and saw him, "I.. Was just uh.. Looking at the pictures, or lack there of." I heard the castle tremble again. The flames were getting bigger. I jumped forwards. My eyes widened to where it looked as though my face extended. The castle kept shaking, I almost fell. I grabbed the ivory stoned banister. I felt his hand on mine.
He grabbed my waste before I fell again. And pulled me closer. This time it wasn't a dream. He pulled me closer to his face. He knew I had feelings for him. He put his lips so close to mine, I could taste them. My heart was beating so quickly, I could barely breathe. His lips touched mine, and for that moment, I felt as though I was flying on thin air. His lips tasted like Honey. He grabbed me and pulled me closer.
"I KNEW IT." We both jumped in shock. It was Bry and Jachelle and Brenna. My eyes widened. I saw as Brenna was smiling and winked at me. "Knew what?" I said. "You two... You were a thing." I looked at him, and said "We're not a thing. It just happened. Who knows what it is. But don't go blabbing to anyone. OR ELSE."
They all laughed. "Hey. We should go to the boat house and see if we can see anything from there." said Jachelle. "Eh. I mean... That sounds a bit stupid. There's a huge fire, and you wanna go towards it." I said. "Oh come on. It's not going to do anything." I looked back at Theo who was leaning away from us. "I guess so. But if we die, it's your fault." I looked at Theo and smiled.
I started walking down the stairs, and I felt Theo grab my arm. He looked me in the eyes,
"Be careful."
