Gryffindor Common Room
Chapter 8
I walked over to the lounge chair in front of the Fireplace. The place was quiet. All of the Gryffindors were out for the night, because we had the Great Hall party, and the remaining Gryffindors would always have a party set up outside at the Quidditch pitch.
"So." I said, hoping to start a small conversation with him, as it got quiet. I knew Theo was always in the Common rooms this time of night, grading his papers. He took a more relaxed approach rather than being in his office. "Why were you talking to my friends?" I said with a bit of curiosity. "I wanted to make sure you were still okay. I was worried. I.. I didn't want to see one of my students still going through the pain you went through the other day." He turned to me before he said another world. "I think quiet honestly. You're..." He stopped before he said another word.
I stopped before I said anything else. "I'm what?" I said questioning his well-being. "You're my favorite student." I looked at him, there was no smile, no sense of humor, he was serious. "Why do you think I've been watching out for you. You've got potential." I glanced at what he was writing for a split second, I saw
Dear Professor James.
This is Headmaster Novellus. I am here to inform you of a meeting that will be taken in my office tomorrow evening, after all of the students have gone to bed. This is a mandatory meeting, and all faculty and staff will be involved with this meeting. Please bring your wand.
I have always been a nosy person. "What's going on?" I asked. He glanced at the paper. "I don't know.. But I heard the other professors talking about it."
I glanced at him, and he glanced at me. For a split second, we made eye contact that seemed like a lifetime. I felt something in my body. That feeling of warm butter melting on toast. It was sliding down my chest. He got up to throw the paper into the warm fire that was still burning, that never seemed to die down.
"I must insist that you go to bed. I will speak with you at another time."
I didn't think he felt like I did, but I am starting to think he does.
He looked at me, "I hope everything isn't chaotic tomorrow. You get to go to Hogsmead tomorrow." It grew silent in the room. I felt this intense pressure build in my chest. "Say it. Just SAY IT. WHY WONT YOU SAY IT." My head kept beating to that seem rhythm. "Theo.... I." In mid-sentence, I was interrupted by a crowd of crazy Gryffindors tumbling through the door at the same time.
"Tomorrow." He said.
I watched him walk off. He left with a sense of finesse, I couldn't help but be in awe.
"What was that about, John" Jachelle asked.
I looked at the door, and I couldn't focus on anything but tomorrow.
"It was nothing. We were just talking about what happened at the duel is all." She looked at me with a look of disappointment. "Seriously. Tell me what's going on. I know that's not what you talked about. I know he was asking about your well being earlier. He wasn't asking like he was a professor trying to take care of you. But something more." I looked at her out of excitment, "Tomorrow night, Jachelle. I need to take you and Bry with me somewhere. I will tell you tomorrow before we leave."
I stood up before she said anything, and walked to my dorm. I took my shoes off, and sat on my bed watching a map that I had enchanted in my fifth year at Hogwarts. I saw Theo standing in his office. He was alone, but pacing back and forth. "Why was he pacing" I kept saying. "There's definitely something serious going on." I closed the map, and got under my twill layered sheets, that seemed to make the entire room brighten with it's crimson glow. I closed my eyes. And I started to drift away.
There he was. Theo and I. We were walking around Hogwarts. There were no portraits. Everything was empty. "Where has everyone gone?" I said. I looked over at Theo who was looking down a series of stairs. "There's someone down there" he said. Before I knew it, we were running down the stairs. "Wait Theo. Wait... What if this is a trap? There's no one in the castle, this can't be good." I glanced at Theo who came closer to me. He grabbed my arm, that was leaning on the railing of the ivory stoned banister. He grabbed my waste and leaned it closer. He got so close I could feel his heart beating the same as mine. My heart was beating so fast, I couldn't breathe. I felt his lips almost touch mine, and then it happened.
"JOHN. WAKE UP." It was my dorm mate. "WHAT IS GOING ON." I screamed at him.
"The professors have ordered everyone to go into the Great Hall immediately."
