The Beginning

Chapter 10

I made my way down the stairs to the Boathouse. Each step got older and older, and looked as though it was about to break on me. I felt the chill air brush against my skin. Hogwarts was the only Wizarding school now. If you were from anywhere else, you came to Hogwarts to be taught.

Bry was running down the stairs, followed by Jachelle and then Brenna. I took my time coming down the stairs, because I was focused on the roaring fire. I put my hands in my pocket, and felt my wand sticking out. It was warm, like they always are. I made my way to the landing of the stairs, and saw the Boathouse doors wide open. The place I used to go to when I couldn't sleep.

I walked in the doors, hoping to find something interesting. There was nothing, but the tarp still in the same place, and the boats that were in the same place they always were hanging idly. I walked to the end of the dock and threw my legs over the wood, which almost touched the water. I felt the water jump from under my feet, and saw the Merpeople in the distance who looked nervous of the oncoming threat to the castle.

There was a line that looked as though it would extend around the castle full of people. I don't think there were that many, but it looked like it. You could see the silhouette of people, no faces, just the darkness that they were. They were controlling the fire, making sure it didn't burn any of them. Suddenly, each of us heard a loud pop. I couldn't believe what I was watching. These Wizards were able to get passed what seemed like hundreds of protection spells.

I stood up, and we started running towards the castle again. I stopped to turn around, and I saw a flash of green light come towards the Boathouse. "They saw us standing there. And that most likely wasn't a good spell." I said. Another beam of Green appeared. This time it hit the stairs just beneath my feet. I shot a spell back at them, which hit the tree. You could see the silhouettes moving as it shot at them. "YOU ARE GONNA GET US KILLED" said Brenna. We started running up the stairs, and I saw multiple lights coming towards us. Red and Green lit up the night sky, and we could see Blue's and Purple everywhere. They were trying to kill us.

We ran to the Courtyard, and saw Headmaster Novellus, with Theo, the Potions teacher, and the Transfiguration teacher Professor Alan. Standing with them were the Head Boy and Head Girl. The Head Boy was from Gryffindor, his name was Taylor. The Head Girl was from Ravenclaw, and her name was Molina. Molina was the one who found the portraits to be empty. We hid behind the columns so no one would see us, as we mouthed words to each other.

Headmaster Novellus turned towards all of the people standing around him, and opened his mouth. Before he said anything "Mr. Yerger, I know you and your friends are here." Theo turned quickly, you could tell it caught him off guard. I walked up to the group with my wand in my hand. I was bleeding. I think I got cut, but blood was rushing down my face. The look on Theo's face, "Jo-- Mr. Yerger, are you okay? What happened?" He said. Professor Alan shot a look at Theo. And I turned completely red, not because of the blood, but because I was embarrassed that this was happening.

Bry and Jachelle along with Brenna walked up behind me. "We were at the Boathouse, and we saw a bunch of people standing there. Things were quiet, until we heard a lot pop. It caused a hole into the protection spells. I watched as the fire started making cracks, and then someone threw spells at us. They kept missing. They started shooting more and more spells at us. I guess I got hit in the head with a spell. But I feel fine." Headmaster Novellus walked over to the edge of the courtyard with the Head Boy and Head Girl. They were whispering to each other to be careful we didn't here.

"Let me see your cut." Theo said. "I don't know where it is." I laughed. He grabbed his wand and held it against my head, I could feel the blood drying. "That looks so cool" said Bry. I turned to her and laughed. "Guess I wasn't being careful." I said. I watched as Theo put his hand in his pocket slowly. "Look, I don't care what relationship you have Theo, but you need to make sure that this doesn't influence your teaching, and you need to be careful around the Headmaster. You will get fired for that." Professor Alan said. We both looked at Professor Alan, "Relationship?" I said to the Professor. "Please don't think I am anything less than you are. I can clearly say that you two have a fling. I don't mind, because you're old enough. I would prefer if neither of you did this when something as serious was happening."

I stepped away from the group. And I made my way over towards the Headmaster with the Taylor and Molina. I don't know why they were chosen as the Heads of the Houses. They never got along, I remember them when they were Prefects. They practically fought each other. "This is a dark storm that is coming through. We need to gather the students who are old enough, and want to fight, around the castle." Taylor and Molina both nodded and walked away. "Come with me" said Molina towards me. Taylor grabbed Bry and Brenna. Jachelle followed me.

"I don't know why. But the Headmaster has plans to fight against this. This means we could potentially have student fatalities. However, Headmaster Novellus believes we are trained enough to fight them." Molina walked up to the Professors, "We need a Professor to come with us." Molina said. I watched as Alan backed away quietly looking at Theo. It looked like they were arguing. Alan ran to catch up with Taylor and the two other students. "Professor James. We are supposed to get a few students, and gather them around the Viaduct and the Viaduct Entrance.

We ran towards the Hufflepuff common room. Theo said the password, which was "Whimsical." We opened the doors, and the Hufflepuffs were all in the common room waiting. They looked at me, and noticed the blood. "Err. What's going on." said a Hufflepuff girl. "The castle is being under attacked. We need all seventh years to come down to the Viaduct Entrance to help defend the castle. If you prefer not to fight, we understand. You can seek shelter in the Dungeons. However, if you care to fight, we could use the help." All of the Hufflepuffs stepped forward. "We're here to help." I smiled, the way that they all were carefree, but if you attacked one Hufflepuff, you had to deal with the rest of them. We made our way out of the common room, and towards the Slytherin common room.

I knew this one wasn't going to be okay. Molina said the password, as Theo followed behind her. "Students. I know this is a very important time. However, we need assistance. We will gather around the castle to help defend ourselves. If you don't want to fight, please make your way to the dungeon. You have to be of age to fight, because we can not accept underage Wizards and Witches to fight." I saw as they looked puzzled. They started whispering. "This group is tricky to please" I thought to myself. I heard a little voice come out of the middle of the room, "We will help fight." The room that was on the same side of her came up behind her. The rest stayed behind. "Well. All students who want to come, please do so. If you want to seek refuge. The dungeons are there for you. There are a few Slytherin prefects down there who will be in charge, until we notify everyone."

The Gryffindors and Ravenclaws were already gathered around the Viaduct Entrance, and the Viaduct. So we knew we had to take over the Entrance Hall. The Slytherins split up and stood towards the Great Hall. Professor Alan was with the Slytherins, only because he was the Head of Slytherin. Of course, Theo was Head of Gryffindor, so he stood with us Gryffindors at the Entrance Hall.

Headmaster was with the Herbology teacher, and the Groundskeeper at the Astronomy Tower. I heard the castle shake. I knew they would be here in a matter of minutes. Everyone started shaking with fear. We used our magic to help seal the door. I stood on the top landing of the stairs, and waited for the doors to swing open any moment. I stood there, and watched the thumping shake and rattle the doors.

Without any warning, it stopped. The students looked around. Quiet. It was sheer silence. You could hear everyone breathing heavily. "What's going on" a student whispered. I held my wand at the door. I made my way from the top landing towards the door, and made my way up to Theo who was standing at the front of the students.

The door slowly opened. There was only one person there. A female. She was wearing a dark cloak. She had dark make up on, and she had an eerie smile. "Hello." she said. "M... Madison?" Theo said. I looked over at him, and she recognized his face. "Well. Theo. Happy to see you again." I looked back at her, and cocked an eyebrow. "Excuse me. But. Who the hell are you." I said. She glanced at me, "Look at the brave little Lion, you obviously have no clue who I am. I'm sure Professor James wouldn't mind telling you a thing or two..." I looked at him, "I don't care who you are. LEAVE." I saw her smile, but only for a second.

"Funny. You think you can tell me what to do. Yet you couldn't even fathom the power I have over you. I broke into the castle, I can take all of you down." My fist tensed up. I raised my wand, and as I was about to cast a spell, Theo grabbed my hand.

"Well... I see what's going on at Hogwarts now. Looks like good ol' Headmaster Novellus is letting students screw around with students." Every single Gryffindor now knew. They looked at Theo and I. He grabbed my hand tighter. All of the students were staring at us.

"I will let you two speak. I will be out here waiting to speak." Madison said. I looked at her walk away from the door, as the doors slammed shut. The students didn't say a word, they just stood in silence.

"WHO cares if Professor James, and John are together. Let them be together. We are adults now. Get over it. Theo is only two years older than us anyways." Jachelle said. At that moment, I just wanted to hug her.

"PROFESSOR." I saw as Professor Alan walked into the room. Theo ran up the stairs to talk to Professor Alan about what happened. He let go of my hand. All of the students watched as Alan was talking to Theo.

".... I will be out here waiting to speak." That line ran through my mind like the last words I would ever hear. I walked towards the door, and opened it quietly.

"Well hello sweety." Madison said to me. "I knew it was going to be you. You just were curious enough to take the bate." I looked at her. "Whatever. Let's just get this over with."

"Theo. Headmaster has ordered all students to be sent to the Viaduct. I called you over to inform you." Professor Alan commanded all of the students to the Viaduct. And Theo stood there as they watched. "Excuse me Professor Theo. Have you seen John?" Theo looked around the students quickly. And looked that the door was still cracked open.

Jachelle put her hand to her open mouth, and screamed. She knew I left at that moment. She ran to the other students to tell them. Theo ran to the door, and opened it. He could only see in the distance of what he saw was Madison and I walking off into the forest.

"I have to go after them." Theo said.
