The chapter about the meat on a story's bones
Ok. So we've got tips to sharpen the storyline, but what about the storyline itself? The plot is a very important part of a fanfiction, and its where the main events of your story happen. There are many different ways to present a plot and here are a few (The names are just names I've made up, they're to help you remember in case you want to use them):
Shadow Plot:
You have one character's POV (to all newbies: POV=point of view) as they follow their struggle and problems throughout the book. However there is a part of the story that is not understood by the main character. That is your shadow. The shadow either serves as a problem or a mystery to the main characters. (Naturally they try to find it out) Those are the best ways to use a shadow but, if you want, go ahead and use the shadow as something else.
Hill Plot:
(This plot is made for a very simple uncomplicated plot. It's very easy to make but usually turns out boring. If that's not the type of plot you want, skip this type of plot. Or read it anyway. I don't really care.)
This type of plot is great for 1st timers. The hill is the problem. The character climbs the hill to vanquish the problem. EX: Billy wanted to get his mother flowers. The flowers were at the top of the hill. To get the flowers he climbed the hill. (In this example I used an actual hill. This was intended.)
EX: Barbra wanted a sandwich. There were no sandwiches so her mother made one.
(These sentences also sound stupid. They are. But again, they're just examples)
In the second example the main character has help from her mother. So if the hill is more like a mountain, it's good for the main character to have a helper so they don't just dangle off a cliff
Two Person Plot:
A two person plot is when you have a main character POV and another character (usually the antagonist) And you have no insight as to why the (antagonist) is doing what they're doing.
Sunlight Plot:
A plot giving you insight on different characters at different times. ( This is not, by any means a copy of "Shorts" a movie that came out a few years ago, this is an organized time-order plot. Or not, your choice.)
You hear one character's viewpoint one chapter and then another one's the next. It's kind of like little bits and pieces of a puzzle coming together to create an entire picture. (EX; Percy Jackson)
These are all the plots I can think of for now, if you have any, please owl me.
