Chapter 11-Katie
Chapter 11
The next day, Jon got up in the morning at 5:30 sharp. I heard him stumbling around in the kitchen, like a bull in a china shop. I muttered to myself angrily, trying to cover my ears with my pillows, but it was no use. So I got up. I was surprised to find that all the others were already awake. “Who wants breakfast?” called Zach`s mom. We all agreed and she busied herself with some orange juice. I sat down at the long, rectangular table and the others followed.
…
I went to grab my spoon, but I accidentally bumped my orange juice. The glass shattered and the juice spilled all over the tablecloth and all over Mrs. Spencer (Zach`s mom). I gasped, then I grabbed the nearest paper towel and dropped it onto the mess. I could of sworn I saw a spark fly from her leg. Then I noticed a small shard of glass sticking out of her arm, but she didn't seem to notice. What was also odd was that there was no blood. I took the now soppy napkin and threw it in the trash. I watched as Zach`s mom casually picked out the shard.
…
That night, I couldn't sleep. I got up and wandered around in the hallway for a little bit. Then I noticed that the door to the master bedroom was slightly ajar. I walked up to the door and peeked in through the small crack. To my horror, I found Mrs. Spencer pulling her skin off, like it was a costume. Under the rubbery skin was a shiny, metal robot. “That feels better” it said , in a monotone. I tried to sneak away but I accidently stepped on a creaky floorboard. “Creeeeeak”, the robot’s head swiveled around even though her body was still facing the other way. The robot looked confused for a moment then it lunged at me. I ran out of the hallway and into the kitchen. I looked around as it broke through the doorway. I open the front door and sprinted outside, I felt the cool air brush against my face. I locked the door behind me, frantically searching for a place to hide. The robot punched the door and his hand went right through. Then, she ripped it off it’s hinges and barreled through.
…
I ran through the front yard, as I dodged bushes and trees. Then I came face to face with a large garbage bag, blocking the gate to the back yard. I turned around just in time to see a metal fist hurtling straight towards my head. I ducked and the fist sank through the garbage behind me. While the robot tried to free it`s arm, I slid underneath it`s silver legs and hid behind a big bush. Finally the robot was just so frustrated that it just left the bag on it`s arm and tried to find me. It looked everywhere, and when she turned in the other direction, I was relieved. Then, the robot suddenly whirled around and lumbered in the direction of the bush. Then I screamed. I tried to run out of the bush but my shirt was stuck on a branch and I couldn't move anywhere. The robot started running for the shrub. Seconds later, the robot was inches from my face. I closed my eyes, but the she kept looking at me confused. I looked around wildly and found that I had turned invisible. Then the robot reached out his arm so close I only had to move a millimeter to touch it. Then, “WHAM!”.
