Chapter 1- Katie
Chapter 1
I have a secret. Not good or bad. Up until my eighth birthday, I was a normal kid, I got average grades, played sports and had plenty of friends. But that one secret, totally changed my life forever.
…
It was a normal Saturday, I woke up, brushed my teeth and did things you always do. Also, it was my eighth birthday! As soon as I heard the first knock on my front door, I zoomed to the door to answer it. It was my neighbor Jonathan. I didn't invite him to my party. My mom did. Not too excited anymore, I reluctantly let him in. I took his neatly wrapped present and placed it on the kitchen table. As I was waiting, I just stared at him. He was looking around interestingly, his combed, sleek blonde hair plastered to his oval-shaped head. He had on a green and white striped shirt, black pants and a black clip-on tie. He also had on brown loafers that squeaked on the hardwood floor. Finally, I heard a loud knock. I ran to the door and opened it. Abruptly, a huge amount of kids came rushing through the door. Christina, Tyler, Lily, Olivia, James, Megan, Amy, Alexa, Adam, Anna, Chris. The other eleven people.
…
The party started off by tearing apart all the presents and playing with them. We did games and all the other things you do at parties. But everything started to get curious when we took out the cake. I'm not saying it was the cake that was abnormal, because it wasn`t. The cake was breath-taking. It was a double-layered, triple-chocolate cake shaped like a flower with pink icing. It had eight baby blue candles sticking out of the surface of the cake. They sang a chorus of “Happy Birthday” and I blew out the candles. Well, that wasn`t exactly how it went. They sang Happy Birthday, yes, but when I was blowing out the candles. something odd happened. I was so focused, so concentrated. But I shouldn't tell you now should I…
…
I might as well tell you now. Better now than never. Anyway, I was so focused, so concentrated... I disappeared. Yes, disappeared. Gone. Invisible. Unseen. Concealed. Imperceptible. Of course, my mother freaked out, so did the other kids, except for Jonathan. He was just staring wide eyed at where I had disappeared and I don't know why. Then he turned on his heels and left. Now I had a big dilemma. I was invisible, and my mom and my friends were running around the house and hollering at the top of their lungs, and I didn't know how to get back to normal. Panic drenched my body, like someone poured cold water over my head. Then, it was all over, in a second it was all over. My mom calmed down, and all the kids had left, without even a bite of cake. All I needed to do was get through Sunday and school, the day after that.
