The Circle- Introduction
Chapter 1
Stories about vampires have been around for centuries, in every culture imaginable. Using various disguises, these Fallen Ones have lived among humans ever since they have been banished. The true nature and identities of these creatures have, however, been hidden behind romanticised legends.
In Chinese myth, Chiang-shih is the popular name given to vampires. These vampires were given the name because they were often spotted in dark alleys, waving their limbs to create large, terrifying shadows.
Hindu cultures have many names for vampires, and to this day, blood sacrifices are still made to the rakshasaon some Indonesian islands.
Not all stories about vampires are completely inaccurate though. Behind some warped theories and ideas that have been passed down through the generations, lies a hint of truth. Yet, the true nature of these creatures of the dark is only known by a certain few, and with good reason, for if all humans knew exactly what lurks in the shadows, it will cause chaos and panic.
The true origin of vampires dates even farther back than time itself. These creatures are descended from the three angels that rebelled against God and eventually fell from His grace. A host of angels, lead by Archangel Michael, was sent to battle these three. As it usually does, good defeated evil, and the three were slain, their bodies burned and cast down to Earth.
The remains were seen as gifts from the gods in ancient Egypt, and were given a proper burial, which included certain spells from the Book of the Dead being buried with them. Instead of becoming a distant memory, the creatures were revived and awakened with a terrible thirst for blood. The spells had worked- just not in the way they were originally planned to. The vampires each went their distant ways and started spreading this curse to the edges of the earth.
Ba’al, the Deceiver, wormed himself into the hearts and minds of humans, making them submit to and serve him. Moloch, the Destroyer, murdered for the sheer pleasure it gave him, and found that he enjoyed starting wars. Belial, the Tortured, tried to hide from the world. He was the only one to ever suffer remorse for his disobedience.
They created the Rule of Three, which stated that each of them was only allowed to create three other vampires, and each of those were allowed to create three and so on, to ensure that vampires never outnumber humans, and thus keep a decent supply of blood around for them to feed on. If they overwhelmed the human population, they would be forced to feed on the blood of other ....less tasty animals.
The darkness spread, with each of the new vampires inheriting the traits of their Ba’al, Belial or Moloch creators. This formed the unique bloodlines that are now present.
I have never been a sceptic like most humans, then again, when you too are cursed, you have no choice but to believe the dark tale of your origins.
My name is Aralynne, and I am a descendant of Belial, and absolutely despise my dark nature. I am, however, the first of my kind to ever defeat our greatest enemy- bloodthirst. I couldn’t tolerate the guilt that came with my transformation, so I vowed to change, and succeeded where many other Belial before me have failed. I have mastered the art of killing my own kind.
I now work alongside the human Protector, an elite human with extreme knowledge of the Fallen Ones, and the werewolves to guard the humans against the danger that is lurking in their midst. Together, we form the Circle of Protection, and have one common goal in mind: to find the one sure way to destroy vampires forever.
