Chapter 2
The Basilisk is an enormous snake-like creature with a body as thick as a tree trunk.

Basilisk breeding is illegal but sometimes bred by Dark wizards. To breed a Basilisk, a toad must incubate and hatch a chicken egg.The first-bred Basilisk in history was by Herpo the Foul, a notorious Dark wizard.

The eye of the Basilisk is fatal. Looking straight at a Basilisk would kill you instantly. If you saw the eye of a Basilisk, but not directly (eg, a reflection, through a translucent object, etc), you would be Petrified - meaning you would be paralyzed and unable to move, speak, think or breathe.

The Basilisk, or the King of Serpents, is scared only of the rooster, whose cry is fatal to it.

A spider's mortal enemy, the Basilisk is classed as an XXXXX by the Ministry of Magic, meaning they are a known wizard killer that could not be domesticated. However, certain Parselmouths could have the power to control a Basilisk, depending on their relationship with the creature.

Basilisks have huge venomous fangs. The only known cure to them is phoenix tear, a magical healing property. They are one o the only things known to destroy a Horcrux, an incredibly dark object which contains a part of one's soul.

The Basilisk originally comes from Greece, but are now found anywhere world-wide.
