Chapter 2
Unicorns are found in forests throughout northern Europe. They are born a gold colour but turn silver as they reach adolescence. The adult unicorn is a pure white.

Generally, these creatures prefer to avoid human contact. If a unicorn did see a person, though, it is more likely to let a witch approach it than a wizard. Reasons for this are unknown.

The blood of a unicorn has shocking yet terrible powers. Drinking it will make you immortal, but from the second its blood touches your lips, you will live a cursed, half-life. To kill a unicorn is a horrible crime.

The unicorn's horn has magical properties, and is sometimes used in potions. Unicorn hair is used as a core for some wands.

The unicorn isn't usually aggressive or particularly dangerous, but requires great respect. The Ministry of Magic animal classification is XXXX, meaning the unicorn is classed as dangerous, requires specialist knowledge, and a skilled wizard may handle it.

It's near to impossible to capture a unicorn, as they are very fast in the face of danger.

Unicorns are not unknown to Muggles, but most do not 'believe' in them. Some, mainly young girls, obsess over unicorns. To the Muggle mind, unicorns are white with a golden or silver horn and a rainbow-coloured mane and tail. Most have wings and can fly. There have been a few Muggle claims of sightings over the years.
