Chapter 3
The great Mage, Alastair Tronj'hal, was amoung the first to arrive in Sanctuary. He was a powerful sorcerer who led a group of Elves east across the sea durring a mass exodus years prior to the destruction of the Artifact. The exact reason for their departure was never clear.
Alastair founded an order of magic-workers who would work for the Queen. It became known as the First Order. They acted as peacekeepers and defenders of the people.
Alastair, being an Elf, had spent many centuries researching magic. Since the rest of his kin remained across the sea, he was the most powerful being in all of the land. Ayani, though she loved him dearly, became fearful of the power he wrought. She had manufactured a spell that was prevent him from turning aginst her, and planned to use it. Before she could, his dragon, Kilandi, died. After sufdering such a loss, he lost the will to live.
Ayani became fearful of Alastair's loss. She began to search frantically for a replacement that could hold the forces of evil at bay. She was close to giving up when a member of The First Order approached her.
His baby was fatally wounded by a spell that was meant to strike him. It was beyond his skill to heal, and begged Ayani for help. Ayani saw this as an oppertunity, and devised a plan that would solve her problems.
Ayani had Alastair heal the baby, though it took some time to convince him. Afterwards, Ayani offered Alastair, and the baby's father a deal. Alastair was to transfer his power into the babe, and in return, he could depart into the void. Alastair did as she asked, but informed her that it would not be able to use his power. His magic was that of the Elves, and only immortal beings such as they could wield it. After he gave up his magic, Ayani cast the spell that would end his life.
As she turned to face the babe's father, a single tear had run down her cheek. She would return the child only if his father promised to have it sever the throne forever more. Frantic, he accepted her terms. She place the child in the mans arms, and took out a large dragon tooth. She broke the tip of it, spilling its contents on the child. After she spoke a long spell, the child emitted a silver glow for a few moments. When the father asked what she had done, the Queen informed him that it was water taken from the Lake of Tears when it was first created, and that his child was now Immortal.
