She And The Wizard

written by Katherine Poe

I knew something was wrong when my sister entered the room with him. The way he looked down upon everything as if it was his, the way he made objects appear out of thin air as if it was the most normal thing to do. He is here for us, I thought. But I didn't know what brought him.

The day was warm, and summer was just around the corner. Then, I lived in a small cottage with my sister Holly just as I do now. I was cooking in the kitchen when I heard a faint knock at the door. Holly ran to open it and see who the visitor was. Most of the time there was chatter at the door when someone came, but this time only silence echoed around the room.

I suspiciously stepped into the hallway to see who was the silent visitor who dared enter our cottage. Holly stared at the visitor in disbelief at the visitor who had made a star appear an inch above his hand. It was a tall and skinny man who had come. He was middle aged and looked strangely familiar. Suddenly, a picture came to my mind- it was a younger version of him laughing as he tortured the King. I heard screams and saw arrows coming towards him, but he disappeared into the air.

"Holly," I whispered as I tried to pull her back but she wouldn't budge. I ran to the door where he was standing and closed it. Sure enough, he jammed his foot in the crack.

"Is that anyway to treat your guest?" the man asked with the same cackle I heard in my head. He managed to pull open the door and barged in the house that had once been the happiest place on earth. He stopped in front of our pictures. "Oh how nice, memories captured in color," he said in a raspy whisper. He grabbed a picture of my once-parents and I watched in horror as it burned in his hand.

"What do you want with us?" I asked in my most pleading voice. I looked down to see Holly tongue-tied looking at me for an answer to get out of there.

"You see in the future you find out something that you shouldn't and I am here to stop you from finding what it is," he said all in one breath. As he walked I noticed he had a tattoo on  his ankle that said T-O-L-L-I-O. Tollio was his name.

"So your helping us?" Holly managed to speak and looked at "Tollio" in the eye. Oh how brave she was!

"Far from it!" he said. Then all went black on this summer day.
