A Genealogy Of The Noble And Most Ancient House Of Black

This text by wizarding historian Roland Sewaley covers the lineage of the House of Black, tracing the family back to its origins and outlining the members and their relations up to its last member. Also, given that there are no more male-line descendants, Mr Sewaley details the disowned members and the continuation of the genealogy through their branches of the family tree. This is a good read for any person intrigued to learn about the lineage of a prominent wizarding family and their descendants.

Chapter 2

The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black traces its origins to the Middle Ages, and although the exact origins of the family have not been pinpointed, historical sources point to Altair Blac as being the first wizarding member of the House of Black. A number of historians have agreed that Altair was a wizard born sometime in the late XI century and attended Hogwarts, as his name is noted in Hogwarts records. Nothing is known of how he acquired his wizarding skills as there are no documents as to his parents, although it can be assumed that they were not wizards. Though Blac certainly did exist and fathered children, there are a number of historians who disagree that he was the founder of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, citing the absense of canonical evidenec and that he had the surname Blac only by coincidence.

The earliest verifiable member of the House of Black is XIX century wizard, Cygnus Black I. He was a wizard born in 1829 to unknown pure-blood parents and sometime in his life, married Ella Max, with whom he fathered four children before his death in 1851.
