Hoverboards

Now these are not the hoverboards that muggles have been trying so hard to create. Although muggles are having some success in creating them, particularly a company called Hendo Hover who have developed the first working muggle hoverboard. Hendo has used what muggles call “electromagnetic repulsion” to achieve their hoverboard.
It works by creating magnetic fields that push against the ground which creates a small lift that allows the board to “hover” off of the ground.

Magical hoverboards have a totally different story. They use magic to hover off the ground. They are much easier to use and use a lot less science. Instead of electromagnetic repulsion, they simply use magic to levitate the board. The greatest benefit of the magic hoverboard is that the board can get much higher in the air than the muggle version. You also do not need an infinite supply of money to get your hands on a magic hoverboard. As long as you know the spell, you can own a magical hoverboard.

Spell: Hover Spell

Incantation: Flitero Afixi (Fli-tear-O A-fix-E)

Wand Movement: Small clockwise circle pointed at the front of the board

You need to remember to get on your board before you levitate it. The spell will work if you are not on it, but it can be dangerous to try and jump on a levitated board. The important thing about the Hover Spell is to concentrate on making your board hover off the ground. If you do not put enough concentration into your spell, you will find that you will not be able to navigate the board, making it difficult to get to your location. The amount of willpower you put into your spell, determines how high you can hover and how long the spell will last. If you are traveling a long distance, you can still use the hover charm. When you feel your board start to lower back down to the ground, simply pull out your wand again and perform another Hover Spell.

Once you get your board in the air, you can put your wand away and work on getting to your location. If you have ever traveled on a muggle skateboard, navigating a hoverboard is a lot like that. You need to stand on your board. When the board is moving forward, you will be facing sideways. To go forward you need to push down on your front foot slightly instead of kicking your leg against the ground to move forward like you would if you were on a skateboard. To move sideways, you need to push down on your feet in the direction that you want to turn. It is important to put the same amount of pressure on both of your feet. The more pressure you put on your feet, the quicker you will turn. To land your hoverboard before the Hover Spell has worn off, you need to push down on your back foot. It is kind of hard to explain how to navigate using hoverboards, you kind of have to get a feel for it.

It is quite an old spell but it has started to get popular in the United States with the 30 year reunion of the movie Back to the Future. It is really simple and all you need is some type of board and a wand. The board does need to be something flat and something relatively lightweight. You can use some type of stone but it will not levitate very much and it will take a lot more concentration, making it harder for you to actually use your hoverboard. Other than those two requirements, you can use whatever you want.

If you find yourself wanting to have your own hoverboard, I would recommend trying different types of boards and different shapes. You will find that the board works differently with each type of board and with each shape.
