Human Transfiguration

Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Basic Self Transfiguration

Human transfiguration is a smaller sub-branch within Transfiguration where one may alter or transfigure body parts to resemble that of another creature or even an entire human being into a completely different form. It is a complex and dynamic form of Transfiguration, much more difficult than Cross-Species Transfiguration, and should not be taken lightly whatsoever. Disastrous effects may be the outcome.

Human transfiguration can essentially be used to recreate the natural abilities of a Metamorphagi, allowing the witch or wizard to transverse their appearance, such as hair or eye color, or taking on individual animal body parts. This transfiguration requires extensive practice and research, whereas a Metemorhagus may choose to practice this ability at will and with much more ease and without the use of a wand. And while it is possible to transfigure a human into an inanimate object, it is unclear how the effects may be reversed without the supervision of another witch or wizard.

The reason human, or self transfiguration is so difficult is because it does not require the use of an incantation, however, a wand is indefinitely required. This is one of the few branches of magic that does require a wand regardless of the witch or wizard in question. Throughout history, it's been speculated that certain wand woods are better adapted for human transfiguration whereas others simply don't, this, however, has never been proven.
