In the library we learned about the past of werewolves. Did you know some people used to think that we were myths?! That is just stupid. But I found out that there is a competition, and whoever wins is the alpha male and the alpha female. A freshman has never been one of the alphas. There is always two alphas. When the first bell rang I knew I had to find my classroom fast. I couldn't stop and think. I changed so that I could bolt to my classroom. When I got there I put away my ears, And walked in. I noticed a tall brown haired girl sitting in the back corner of the room. She saw me and ran up to me.
“Hey little sis! What are you doing here?” she said in a enthusiastic voice.
I replied “This is my math class. Why are you in here?”
She answered again “ I heard they are mixing the grades this year.” I was astonished.
“ I didn't know that they were going to do that. I heard mom and dad talking about it but I didn’t know they would actually do it.” My sister asked “ Where are your ears?”
I said back “ I am hiding them.
She responded “ You don’t have to. When you are here the people fear you and don’t bother you! They know you are stronger than them so the mean people stay away.” I was surprised. As soon as my sister said that I popped my ears and tail out. It felt amazing to have them out. After class my sister pointed me in the direction of my next class. Once I got there I noticed I was in Mr. Barnabe’s classroom. I walked in the door and saw werewolves everywhere. I was overwhelmed with the smell. When I found my seat I saw that I was sitting next to a boy named Levin on my right side and a girl named Alena on my left. During the first class we were told to make a pack of friends in the class. I went over and started to talk with Alena then Levin joined in.
“I didn't know you were new.” he said to me. He had a sweet voice that sounded like he already hit puberty in elementary. Alena on the other had was all over the place. She was a hyper and energetic wolf who got around fast. Soon after when time was up to form a pack I realized that they were my first pack.
When it came time for lunch we found each other and sat together at a table by the window.
“I love the outside. It calms me down when I have too much sugar.” Alena sighed as we sat down.
“Are you sure it calms you. You seem to be on alert and ready to pounce on anybody today.” Levin said eyeing her suspiciously.
“Sorry but I’m really excited today.” winning and trying to get him to feel bad.
“ Come on guys. There's no reason to get in a fight with words over this.” I said to them calming them with my words.
“ Anyway what are you excited about Alena?” Levin asks her.
“ You didn’t hear? Well the competition sign up is today.”
“WHAT?!” I almost shout, and the whole cafeteria turns to look at me. I manage a sorry, but no one hears.
“Yah, there are so many wolves signing up this year. The Alpha from last year is organizing it.”
“Who’s that?” I ask Alena in awe.
“The alpha male, a senior, is his name.” Levin told me. “He is holding it for a new alpha female.”
“Should I participate?” I ask them awe struck on their faces. “What? Is it a bad idea?”
“YES!” they both say at the same time, and we all burst out laughing.
“Naomi, The competition is a hard one to beat. No one finishes it but the one who gets the farthest wins.” Levin explains.
“I’ve done it before.” Alena says with fear on her face.” The other wolves that do it says it’s ruff. No pun intended.”
“If you do it you need to be popular and tough.” Levin stammered.
“My sister is doing it.” I tell them.
“Wait, Who’s your sister?” Alena questioned.
“Megurera.” I say puzzled.
“Wait,... Your Megurera’s sister?” They say with surprise on their faces.
“Yes. And you should look at your face!” I tell them bursting out laughing. Then we all laugh until our faces are purple.
“Well It’s almost time for our next class.” I say reminding them that it is almost halfway through the day. “I have home ec. What do you guys have?” I ask them.
Levin responds “I have Howling at the Moon 101.”
“I have that too!” Alena exclaims.
“Well I have to go.Bye guys!” I say as I walk away. Ok where is my classroom? I think to myself. I turn the corner and see something that shocks me.
