Chapter 9- Quidditch Hoops and their History

Chapter 9
Quidditch hoops were originally just 2 trees on either end of a field when the game was invented. Just after that a few barrels were added for the players to shoot through. This was the beginning of the evolution of the goal hoops.
After its invention, Quidditch began to grow slowly as a community game. As technology advanced and as the game evolved the barrels changed to baskets. This was perfectly fine for quite a while but as the game grew official matches were organized. With the game's popularity came fans. With fans came disputes. There were issues with decided who earned a goal and whether or not they counted. The baskets were all different sizes and a quaffle might just fall out or not fit in! For example, one team put small baskets on their end of the field and larger baskets on the other end. That way, when the other team tried to score the quabble wouldn't fit!

That was too disorganized. For that reason in 1883 the baskets were removed. They were replaced by hoops which could be standardized easily by the ministry. This was intended to limit the number of disputes. Instead, it made fans angry at the ministry. At the time, many were unhappy. In fact, when it was announced they threw baskets at the ministry members! Fans didn't think the changes were good ones but today we still use the same standardized hoops. Today, goal hoops are approximately 30 feet high but they vary in height.
