The Surprise
Chapter 2
*Ring! Ring!* The school bell finally rang at Sacremento Learning Academy. I ran through the door and into the waiting parked car that held my babysitter ( Her name is Alex, which means “Defender of Mankind”!) My brother was already in the car. “Sorry I’m late!” I apologized. “ Oh, don’t worry! We’ve only been waiting for 20 minutes!” Was my brothers unusual dramatic comeback. Something is definitely wrong! I thought. “ You sound depressed; is there something wrong?” I asked politely. This time, Alex answered. “The Swenson Museum is thinking about shutting down. Angel, the owner's daughter, informed Cal. Now he is very cross because he is too busy with soccer to help out the Museum.” What! No that can’t be! The Swenson Museum was the only museum close to where I live. How will we get our historic books now? I busily thought, Maybe I could volunteer! I decided to ask Mom later.
Alex sat on the couch with me and watched Frozen (A movie about two princess , one having ice power, learning the act of true love.) When the movie was done my brother hid in his room. I could hear the garage door opening. Right on time! I thought. Mother was finally home. Alex said goodbye, and left. “Hello my dear! Where is your brother?” My mother asked cheerily. ”Cal is upset that the museum is thinking of closing. He thinks that is too busy to volunteer though.” I said dryly. How could mother act so cheery? Surely she knew how devastating it was to hear that your favorite place was shutting down! I decided to stay calm and ask my mother my question. “I was wondering if maybe… I could volunteer? “ My mother’s grin widened. “That is exactly what I was thinking, Cara. I know that we can save the Museum. I just know it.” She put a gentle hand on my shoulder.”I know we can too.” I responded. This time, I also had a grin on my face.
“Wow! That's sound amazing!” I had told my brother that I was going to volunteer at the Museum. It was after school and we were waiting for our Mom. “ I really hope that we can save the Swenson’s Museum, Cal!” Was my grinning response. “Oh, I know we can, Cara!” Cara and Cal. Cal and Cara. That was us! I loved my brother as much as I loved reading. He looked exactly like me. The only difference between us was that I was a girl and he was a boy. We also looked a lot like our parents too. Although, our Dad had brown eyes instead of blue eyes. *Screech!* Our car pulled up.”Hop on in!” So we did!
