Cozy Corner
Chapter 1
“The boy ran for his life! Oh no! The San Francisco earthquake moved the earth! He fell and…” Bang! Something hit my window. I ran to look outside. “Hi Cara!” My twin brother Cal yelled out. I shut the window and walked away. How dare he disturb my reading! I thought to myself. About two minutes later, my mother called me to dinner. Ugh! Why do I always have to be interrupted? While dinner is going on, perhaps I shall tell you a little bit about me. My name is Cara Adams. I have short red hair, pale skin, blue eyes, and my favorite color is yellow. Me and my twin brothers first letters are in honor of our home state, California. To be specific, we live in Sacramento, California. Sacramento, in fact, is the State Capital of California. My father works as a teacher, and my mother helps out every other day at the Swenson Museum. I hope to someday help out at the museum too. They have books there, and reading is like a hobby to me. When I was younger I would sit in the same cozy little corner, and read historical books. Actually, that was where I was sitting just a few minutes ago. I always made sure to keep my little corner clean. Two days ago I put up a poster that says ” Read All Day! That's What I Say!”. Indeed, I wholeheartedly agree with it. Well, I better go back to when I was getting up for dinner. I watched my brother run in through the backdoor. When I finally got down to the kitchen table, everyone was seated. “Come on dear and eat” my father beckoned to me.”Your Mother cooked meatloaf for dinner tonight”. Yum! Meatloaf! I absolutely loved meatloaf! Mother only made it on the last week of the month to celebrate the soon to be arrival of a new month. Everyone in my family, in fact, had always liked meatloaf, and I could tell that today would be no exception to that liking. I quickly sat down and enjoyed the feast. After everyone was done, I got up and went to my room. Now to read my book! Or so I thought. “Get ready for bed, Cara!” Argh!
When I was (At last!) ready for bed, I sat down and snuggled under my covers to read. Ahh! Nice and snug! At about 7:30, I was told to go to bed. I was quiet and held my tongue, although I really wanted to disagree. After all, I was only ten (Almost eleven!).Maybe when I grow older I can stay up later! Oh well! I immediately went to the nightly routine of saying goodnight to everyone. When I was done, I marched upstairs to bed. I looked out into the starry night sky. Then I headed for bed. I was definitely not ready for the next few weeks ahead of me!
