LETTER - Sept 2
Dear Mum and Dad,
I'm here, I'm settled in, and can finally tell you all the news. Last night I was "sorted" by the hat into... Ravenclaw!! (Mum, were you a Hufflepuff?)
The other girls in my room are equally excited and determined to have a great academic year. We've already elected ourselves into rotating leadership roles for organization, encouragement, and efficiency. Two of the girls have pets. I've been told there a few other students here from America, but I haven't met any yet.
I will send this letter via owl - my first one! What a great way to send mail. I think I'd like to be an owl breeder someday. Maybe the non-magical world would see the benefit, too, and my skills would be in great demand.
I hope you both are enjoying the extra few days of work and vacation visiting with Aunt and Uncle.
I love you all. Wish me well in my first year - it's already coming true!
love, Angelica

LETTER - Sept 6
Dear Mum and Dad,
what an amazing first year I am having! I absolutely LOVE my classes.
Most of the professors are very encouraging, and that's helped me to not be so nervous here. I'm trying not to let my American accent be too strong.
And I'm having difficulty remembering all the English names for charms and wish we could only use Latin. (why not just call it the LUMOS charm?)
My astronomy class will be interesting. Class at night?! Awesome!! Perhaps THAT will be my future profession, instead of breeding owls, like I wrote you about last week.
AND I just today finally figured out my way around the Library. I'm going to have so much fun there!
Well, got to go. I have to make sure my homework is completed so I can make it to Astronomy class tonight.
Love, Angelica

LETTER - Sept 14
Dear mum,
Thanks for your letter. Don't worry. I'm doing fine. I suppose you and dad are back home now, and back to work.
I am swamped with work, too. And I spoke too soon about wanting to be an astrologer/astronomer/whatevertheycallthemselves. I got really confused in Astronomy... I'm not so great at understanding how we read the stars. My first grades back, and class last night... well, I hope I get better.
I'm meeting a few people. A nice third year asked how I was at lunch the other day. I was feeling nervous at the time, so I didn't know what to say. I hope to make some friends soon. I remember my promise, to pick my friends wisely.
Where will you travel next? Are any of our maple tree leaves changing color? Please stay safe.
Love, Angelica

LETTER - Sept 19
Dear Aunt G,
Thanks for your phials and scales. I needed them for potions class already, and I'm taking good care to keep them clean and properly stored.
If ever I didn't know magic or plants were mortally dangerous, I do after today's Herbology lesson. We learned about three incredibly dangerous plants. I think the one that frightens me the most is the mandrake. Precautions MUST be taken, or death will surely occur! And there is no cure for that.
I've been sufficiently scared by this lesson to take ALL magic and learning opportunities here at HiH very seriously.
