Antipodean Opaleye
Chapter 2
This particular dragon is native to New Zealand. Though it has been known to migrate to Australia. It usually does this when territory becomes scarce in it's native land. Unlike other dragons the Antipodean Opaleye prefers to dwell in valleys, unlike other dragons who dwell in mountains.
It is medium size which is still pretty big as far as dragons go. It is between two and three tonnes and perhaps the most beautiful dragon breed. The Opaleye has iridescent pearly scales and glittering multicolored pupil less eyes. The eyes is where this dragon got it's name. The flame this dragon produces a vivid scarlet.
As far as dragons go the Opaleye is not particularly aggressive. It rarely kills unless it is hungry. It's favorite pray is sheep but it has also been known to attack larger prey. In the late 1970's there was a string of kangaroo killings which, in the end pointed to a male Antipodean Opaleye forced out of his homeland by a rather aggressive female.
The Opaleyes eggs are pale grey and are sometimes mistaken for fossils by muggles. A rather nasty surprise for the when they discovered otherwise.
