Heartsongs
A selection of my own poems. Many of them have elements of faith, some are rather dark, and several of them are of a personal nature. Read at your own risk. Enjoy!! Reviews are welcome, no flames please!

The Pain And The Promises
Chapter 12
No one can know my pain
This is my burden
No one truly understands
If they did
The anguish would crush them
Some days the Blackness seems friendly
Curling around me
Asking me to enter a place I know I can never leave
I wear a smiling mask
When I am alone, hidden
I take it off
I can cry and be weak
A place where no one needs me to be strong or whole
I can drop the farce
And let my heart scream, and cry
A place where no one judges me
Criticizes me
Tells me what to do
Insults those I love
How much longer must I endure?
Heartache is my companion
Home remains my dearest dream
A family that loves and accepts each other
A day where I will finally remove this cloak of shadows
I’ll wear a gown of pure white
Adorned with brilliant shards of starlight
My jewelry made of crystal tears
Sending rainbows arcing into Eternity’s light
When my mask will fall off
When I will smile for real
My heart will be finally free
A life never-ending
In a perfect paradise
No fear
All things forgiven
A place where I can forget the screaming
The fear of being ripped from my parents
The insults from family member to family member
The feeling of not being able to do anything right
The shame of having nowhere to go
The sorrow of seeing another’s tears
The feeling of hopelessness
The knowledge that you are a burden
The cares of the world rest on your shoulders
A once happy innocent child becomes
A figure shrouded in black
Bent double
Pushed into shadow
Carrying woe
Knowing that children must grow up
That the happy light will be crushed
In a dark cruel world
Eventually rekindled
To shine forever
All scars will vanish
The bent will stand tall once more
The day the Lion walks with the Lamb
The day we are welcomed Home
Children will never know pain or fear
Adults will not remember the trouble of life
The raging sea
Will forever be calm
By the cross I’ll enter in
By His Love I will be freed
By His stripes I am healed
By His grace I am redeemed
My pain He has felt
My anguish was long ago understood
I know I am no burden
The fights are meaningless
The fear is invalid
My Father will always be beside me
Hopelessness was long ago defeated
My cloak is fading
The pain is still present
But now, I know
That this too shall pass
This He has promised me
For all eternity
